My son opted for Millsaps over Tulane, so it appears I will be spending a decent amount of time in and around Jackson, MS over the next 4 years.

Any suggestions on the best course in the area for public play?

Lake Caroline and Deerfield are two courses I have played just north of Jackson. Both were nice courses.

I haven’t played any of them in years, but I used to enjoy Lake Caroline and Patrick Farms.

Dancing Rabbit is an hour and a half northeast of Jackson. Two beautiful courses. If you only play it a few times play it in the spring with everything blooming.

Jackson is similar to Memphis in that most of the good courses are private - CCJ, Reunion, Annandale.

When this is finished, it should be pretty cool

There aren't a ton of public options. Deerfield is my top choice and favorite greens. The Refuge just reopened recently and is pretty good, but pace the few times I've been out there was terrible. If you're looking for something a little cheaper, Live Oaks and CC of Canton will get the job done. Warning about Live Oaks, they will close for even a slight threat of rain.

Annandale & Reunion are the only 2 courses I’ve played. My PGA PAT was @ Annandale back when the Deposit Guaranty was held there. Was a pretty tough track then, but no prob for the Tour players...

When I lived in Jackson I played at CCJ a good bit and the public course I would play was Canton Country Club. They had turtle back greens so they were tough to hit but it was a fun course.

Lake Caroline is a pretty nice course as well and have heard good things about the refuge now that they have Re-opened.

Also, as someone else mentioned you could always make a day trip to the casino courses or head up to Old Waverly/Mossy Oak (2 hours) and do a pheasant hunt/golf package deal. Waverly and Mossy Oak are the two best courses in the state IMO although I haven’t played fallen oak yet and it is always at #1 or 2 in the state

I remember this being a good course but also being a little swampy and hot AF.

Refuge just underwent a big overhaul and should be pretty nice

Caroline and Deerfield are also good options

Find someone who can get you on Reunion, Annandale, or CCJ

Agree with Dancing Rabbit which is a little more than an hour away

We played refuge a lot when I was in school over there. They started the remodel my last year. It was a great course. I havent played it since they opened back up though.

I played it about a month ago after the reopen. It is all really nice and since it just reopened everything was in perfect condition. I also used to play it when I was in school there and imo they removed too much landscaping and trees and kind of took a lot of character away from the course. The pace of play was also pretty brutal but would definitely give it another shot.
