Paying a coach 3 million a year, which I read was something on the table for Corbin or someone, is paying them for what they have already done.

You're not paying him $3 million for his past accomplishments. You're paying him $3 million to try to lure him AWAY from his current job with the thought that he can produce similar results at your school based on a history of success. It's no different than any other industry. The best employees are in the highest demand. And in order to get those employees you have to be willing to compensate them at a level higher than anyone else. Corbin can demand $3 million.

I don't believe in that approach. Skip had never won anything and he is the best coach of all time. He earned at LSU what he got paid.

The program was at a FAR different level when Skip was hired than it is now. I get what you are saying, but the fans here demand tremendous success, immediately. No one can guarantee with any certainty that the next HC will perform accordingly. All one can do is look at past history as the best indicator of future success. If the goal is to get to a championship level as quickly as possible then then a guy like Casey who has won multiple NCs is more probable to get there than a younger HC that hasn't. If LSU is willing to take on a bit more uncertainty in reaching that goal in exchange for a lower salary then a younger HC is the play.

We need a splash of pedigree to justify the hire, amirite. Just a splash.

Yes and his name is Andy C.

He had enough energy to be texting a mistress instead of coaching his team. He did not even know what the situation was. And instead of recruiting he was chasing tail and aSTEALING the university’s money. I guess none of that matters to you because he has big muscles.

Casey was 48 when he won his first. He built that program while in his mid-40s, and that is the sweet spot for a man to have energy, and experience. Mid-fifties is when the energy starts to go. This is experience talking. Casey quit due to burnout at 59.

McDonnell isn't that young, but he fits the rest. And he's won at the top level.

I’m all for bringing in a young coach with an innovative mind to put in some news plays and concepts on the football. Baseball is completely different, the game doesn’t change, sure you can go small ball or gorilla ball but there’s not some new concept out there that only young coaches will bring to the table. It’s all about finding a guy with the personality and leadership skills that will thrive in a particular program.
