Davies scores for Canada, but now he's hurt.

Curacao advances with a 0-0 draw.

Guatemala on the last kick had a chance after the Curacao GK spilled a free kick, but the Guatemala player on the rebound skied it about 50 yards over the goal.

Barring any 2nd half miracles, looking like:

El Salvador vs St Kitts & Nevis
Canada vs Haiti
Curacao vs Panama

Some clarification on who's managing Curacao...

Grant Wahl
@GrantWahl

Hiddink still in charge of Curaçao, but Patrick Kluivert has been filling in lately while Hiddink deals with Covid.

We would open up Ocho play against one of these two on the road in September.

Anything less than 3 points would be a complete failure.

Montserrat, Guatemala, and T&T all get eliminated without losing a match.

Which is why 3-team groups are garbage and it's a disgrace that the World Cup is moving to that.

Someone asked earlier why Suriname is in CONCACAF.

From a geopolitical standpoint the countries of Suriname, Guyana, and French Guiana are not considered part of Latin America, despite being on the South American landmass.

Those three countries are predominantly Afro-Caribbean by history and culture, rather than Latin. They have way more in common with Barbados and T&T than their South American neighbors. So that’s why they’re in CONCACAF with us instead of CONMEBOL.

Plus, they would be absolutely destroyed in CONMEBOL. They don’t want to play those teams and those teams don’t want to play them. CONCACAF is the right place for them.

If I were the wizard of world soccer, I would carve out a separate confederation out of the the countries in North Africa, the Middle East, and the Caucasus. UEFA, AFC, and CAF all have way too many teams over a large area. My made-up region makes much more sense for geography and would make an interesting battle for World Cup qualification. It’ll never happen for political reasons, though, since those countries don’t get along.

That can happen in pretty much any type of group stage. New Zealand didn't lose in 2010, Belgium didn't lose in 1998. These CONCACAF groups were 5-team groups with only the 1st place teams advancing. Aren't the 3-team World Cup groups going to have the top 2 teams advancing?

I'll gladly take the 3-team groups if it leads to more knockout games.

They both didn't win games either.

But I'm stupid and was thinking these were 3 team groups for some reason. It's been a long day.

Hugo Perez is apparently managing El Salvador now. When did he leave the Mexico youth structure?

ETA: I'm losing my damn mind. I could've sworn it was a big deal that he left our youth system for Mexico's, but he has been with El Salvador in some capacity for the last 6 years.

Who the frick am I thinking of?

ETA2: So it was Huge Perez who apparently got hired by Mexico in 2019 according to this (LINK /) but it either never actually materialized or he wasn't there long before going back to El Salvador.

Hugo coached the El Salvador U23s earlier this year and was hired as the senior team manager in April. His son followed him and started for them today.
