I had to google after an old coworker told me about it. River Parish Community College in the Gonzales area.

I had to ask another coworker who lives in p-ville with a son going to LSU about RPCC.

She spoke highly of RPCC. Said kids can enroll in high school and RPCC concurrently and graduate from RPCC at the same time as their h.s graduation. How wild is that?? They offer welding too.

Have you really never heard of it? It’s like BRCC except they focus on stringent academics. Some even say RPCC is the Harvard of the river parishes.

(Because of the implication.)

Just took a NCCCO crane course there last month. Nice place, but no one was there. Weird.

Ascension parish school board offers an early college option for high school students that meet the criteria. Graduate high school with 60hrs of college credit, paid for by the school board, so you can still spend your TOPS money later.

I would imagine it's still mostly online with COVID.

It's a great place for kids to get their P-tech degree, welding certifications, or pre-reqs to 4 year university.

Dutchtown, St Amant, EA all have programs that direct their students(after 10th grade) towards 4year colleges or the RPCC/Vo-tec route. It's pretty fricking awesome.

I really wish I would have gone that route right off the bat. I wasted so many years in college making shite for pay (even with a BS in Business). Bit the bullet, became an operator and now make a nice living doing what I do. To think what my retirement would have looked like by now had I started ten years earlier.

Yes - not only does the Ascension Parish public schools have a good relationship with them - RPCC is very good with working with the homeschoolers too.

Central has pretty much the same thing. They partner with BRCC, LSU, SELU, and SU.

Yes, they have very good opportunities out there for the high school students. I know a few teachers at the high school.

All of this. RPCC is a great option for kids or adults wanting to go back to school.

My nephew took a couple summer courses there that were cheaper than at LSU and they transferred no problem.

They recently partnered with Southern Miss for a Applied Technology BAS degree where the student would get their associates at RPCC then get accepted at USM.

Still have a ways to go to come close to what Sorrento Vo Tech was in the 80s and 90s.
