High carbohydrate and high calorie diet is a major cause in addition to what has already been mentioned. My research says lose weight, watch your carbs, avoid high fructose corn syrup, avoid seed oils (canola, sunflower, cottonseed, etc ), and try to integrate fasting in your weekly schedule.

Not to mention it's not like the op is providing any lab results or metrics. Even if the best liver doctor in the world posted on this forum they'd need more information.

I don’t have any results or metrics

I’m asking the question as a general question. Again, this isn’t for me.
I was having a discussion with someone who said they give up drinking for periods of time to let their liver recover. I said that I didn’t know that a liver could be rehabbed and they insisted that it could.

If that is what you are speaking of, yes it can, to what extent depends.

I'll say this much...if his drinking is hard enough where he is concerned about his liver health even with intermittent periods of no drinking then maybe it's best to just not drink.

I'm saying this as someone who has had some pretty severe drinking habits in the past. It can damage a lot more than your liver or health if you let it.

Dealing with fatty liver now. Alcohol is not my issue at all. But my diet has sucked as my business has grown.Spend too much time at a desk now and fast grabbing shite food. I probably needed the wake up call.

look up milk thistle. It's one of the best things for liver rehab.

There isn't a lot of hard data on milk thistle bit everything I've read concludes that it won't harm anything either and it might have some benefits with lowering LDL cholesterol. Might be good to take even if you don't have liver issues.

liv 52 is mainly milk thistle and is pretty worthless imo for true rehab....for everyday support of a liver once healthy, i think it shines.

look up tuduca and get on it if you are treuly trying to rehab the liver and rebuild function.

btw if you are not following dante trudal on IG....well shame on you.

I am battling the fatty liver issue right now. I am almost 50 and went a few weeks ago for my annual blood work and it came back soso. Dr sent me for an ultrasound as it was pointing to the liver issue, and sure enough it was slightly enlarged and fatty. He told me to follow a Mediterranean style diet, I am eating recipes from The Mediterranean Dish, very tasty and better than I thought it would be.

It has been about two weeks no sodas, a lot more veggies and I am down 11 lbs. I also am up to 3 miles walking per day and started some ab stuff. I go back in 3 months to see the results of just a diet change and NO meds or supplements.

There's not going to be any data anytime soon. Big pharma and medicine have big financial disincentives discouraging them from studying this.
