Anyone here ever ride the St. Tammany Trace and if so, have any refs on good starting points, etc?

I usually hop on at Koop Dr and ride towards Slidell but it's shut down at I-12 right now for construction. I've seen people park at Dove Park and ride from there.

Mandeville Trailhead to the Lacombe Bridge and back. It’s like 18 miles round trip. It’s a nice enjoyable ride.

Weekend mornings usually get quite a few riders on it. If you can do a weekday it’s much more enjoyable.

Mandeville Trailhead has a Farmers Market on Saturday so I sometimes park at the lakefront and ride over. Cars are at safe speeds (20mph) on the lakefront and neighboring roads are pretty cognizant of riders. A lot of people pay to park at Fountainbleau park and ride out from there.

Mandeville to Slidell and back is like 30 or 31 miles round trip. The whole thing does have some small crossroads but pretty safe stuff. If you go north from Mandeville you’ll cross some more traffic’d roads and need to be careful to watch for inattentive drivers.

It’s blocked on both sides of I12 and I don’t think there is much option to get around unless you ride down HWY59. I’m not that crazy.

There’s a parking lot on Sharp Road if you need an access point.

Can you haul arse though? I'm talking like 21mph average.

Several crossroads that you’ll have to pay attention to. They’ll slow you down in sections. I’d go Mandeville Trailhead to Slidell and back to push speed. Once you get past Fountainbleau park the crossroads dwindle and you can pace better. There are group rides doing 20+ on this route. They also take a hwy off of the trace heading south on the Slidell end heading towards the lake and loop back to the trace. Weekends you’ll be doing some people dodging for a few miles at that speed.

Yeah like ELLSSUU said, you can haul arse going from the Mandeville trailhead toward Slidell. A few crossroads to slow up at but you can average 21+mph going that way.
