re: What’s the best lake to buy a camp on in LA?

I’m kinda partial to Lake Claiborne, myself. We live in a cove just behind Snake Island. Directly across the cove from my house is Kings pasture and Kings point. Some of the nicest land on the lake and only the cows get to enjoy it. Lol

Lots of undeveloped land on the lake, which is nice. The King family owns a lot of it and it’s in a trust. For the time being, that land can’t be developed so it keeps a lot of wooded areas bordering the lake in a natural setting.

Love that cove, spent a lot of my formative years skiing back there and making the pass between the island and the shore. Was pulling my buddy on a slalom ski on that pass one day and he got a little too aggressive headed toward the shore - fin caught in the sand and tossed him head over heels - ripped the boot off the ski and skin off his foot. Lucky it didn't kill hem. We used Sandy Creek Marina quite a bit back in the day.

What is the Salvinia situation? Went over probably 5 times this past summer, the last in late July, and didn't notice anything. I had been catching wind here and there that it was becoming a thing, but haven't seen for myself, nor heard from someone who really knows. Would be a darn shame.

Had school parties in the barn at King's point growing up. I love that land. Could draw a map from memory to this day.

My family has had a camp next to the old Sandy Creek marina since about 1975. The Ratliffs owned the marina when we bought our lot. I’ve spent a lot of time back in this cove as well. It’s just about my favorite place in the world. Lot of really great memories.

The last lake commission meeting the salvania is was addressed. State biologist think we may always have it on the lake, but the deep open water and wind should see at a max coverage only about 10% of the lake. Sucks for people in the back of the coves, but the overall lake shouldn’t be a problem.

And I almost broke my back when my ski hung in the mud on the island too.
