Which did you find to be more difficult back in the day? I finally beat Icuras years later in college. Sure I skipped alot of class and bombed but damnit I did it.

Dragon Warrior, man what a game. Never beat it... however, it was an amazing game for its time. So many damn secrets and locked doors that I never had the key for.

I mean one’s action and ones turn-based so not really comparable.

But I feel you on being in college and beating the ones that tortured you as a kid - Castlevania III, Mega Man 2, and Ninja Gaiden for me

Finished a final paper one night and all I had to do the next day was in-person turn in. Stayed up till sunrise beating Castlevania III, was at the prof’s door when he got there, then slept all day.

Kid Icarus

It is why I only ever beat the Gameboy version.

Dragon Warrior was my gateway drug to RPGs. Kid who lived on the next street over was about 7 when his grandmother bought him Dragon Warrior for his birthday. Know your audience, G-Ma. Just because the box looked interesting...

I traded him my copy of Blaster Master for it.

DW was easier.

Knowing what you have to do there is the problem. Past that, it is a matter of grinding.

Kid Icarus? Significantly harder between weird controls, some luck based elements, and how demanding the benchmarks are for health meter boosts and arrow upgrades IMHO.

This right here. Got it with the Nintendo Power sub. It was such a basic game but was amazing for it's time. The sequel was hard AF.

I still do a playthrough of DWIII and IV every couple of years. Those two games were years ahead of their time. They hold up against modern day games in everything but graphics.

Icarus was insane. My 8 year old is amazed at how hard some of our games were back in the day. Back before auto saving, endless continues and difficulty adjustments

I’m surprised more joysticks weren’t broken in the NES days.

I know we broke a ton on the 2600 simply because certain games put unnatural wear on them cough Decathlon cough.

90% of modern single-player games are pathetically easy

It’s part of why I’m an unapologetic rabid Fromsoft fanboy

I loved Kid Icarus on the NES, but yeah, it’s hard as a motherfricker
