A good book will cover all the reasons, slavery included.
Are you just getting into reading about the Civil War? If so, start with Battle Cry of Freedom for a one volume. The Shelby Foote history if you feel like committing a few months to it.
Or are you past the overview stage and want to nerd out on specifics?

One of the books I’ve come across is ‘it Wasn’t about slavery: exposing the great lie of the civil war’ by samual mitcham.

Hmm is this a Daughter's of the Confederacy book from the '20's?
It was about economics and the southern economy was built on slave labor.

I read 29 years a slave; 29 years a free man. Probably not what you are looking for, but it provides a POV from a slave during the period. It is a free download from the national archives. I found it very interesting on the different layers of slavery and social hierarchy.

If you are looking for one excellent source, go with the Shelby Foote trilogy.

Shelby Foote, Chernow, and Ambrose have all written some good ones.
