The speakers will never be as good in a soundbar as a real AVR setup.

People pay upwards of $1000/speaker on top of the AVR. You are not getting that quality of a speaker in a soundbar.

I disagree except in the case of audiophile entertainment rooms which have to be built with the acoustics in mind from the beginning as well as selecting high end speakers.

I'm using "soundbar" to refer to not only the single bar that sits in front of your TV but also the wireless satellites and sub that come with higher end models.

Its all about the software and tuning the sound for the speakers that are integrated; not pairing an AVR with the latest 'surround decimal number of the month' club. what are we up to now? 9.2.4? c'mon man.

The integration (software + hardware) is going to be the killer app for soundbars over traditional AVR getups.

eta this is for the consumer mass market. i realize there are a few audiophiles on here who welcome the challenges and costs associated with stringing up 9 speakers and the non-stop AVR merry-go-round as you keep having to trash your old one on an almost yearly basis to keep up with the changes in both video & audio. i was one of the people on that carousel. i threw away 4 AVRs that were perfectly fine but lacked a crucial piece of tech that came with my new TV that required all new hardware.

Some more details on the 8K ONLY 6 series models. LINK

All new 2021 TCL 6-series Roku TV models, under the R648 model number, will be 8K. This is potentially big news for budget-minded early adopters, as the 6-series has been a compelling line that, while not TCL's cheapest, has consistently impressed us with its reasonable price and strong performance. This will hopefully be the case for the R648 TVs, though TCL has not yet announced pricing for the 2021 8K models.

*sigh* they need to finish getting 4K rounded out before jumping to 8K.

can't wait for dolby to hit us with a new round of audio & video standards for 8K that won't show up for another 2 years so we have to trash our 'early adopter' TCL 8K tvs.

These TCL mini-LED 6 series holding up after reviews and people buying them?

Thinking of getting a 75”.

Any issues connecting with my soundbar? (VIZIO SB3651-F6 36” 5.1)

I see Best Buy has the 6 series back in stock for still $1,399. Rtings has all green ratings.

Worth pulling the trigger?
Any negatives being reported?
I don’t know what the posts about 4K vs. 8K mean either.

If you future proof enough you shouldn’t have to do this.

I just built a home theater in a spare bedroom, the room is a terrible acoustics for a home theater, but it sounds absolutely amazing. No sound bar can possibly get close to it.

That being said, all in just on the audio, I spent $2,750 so there absolutely are price restrictions. But I think the biggest thing I’ve noticed after talking to a lot of people about it is that most people just simply don’t care about the audio as much as other. And there is nothing wrong with that. It’s like a hobby. I enjoy it, but I know it’s not for everyone. And if someone like the way a soundbar sounds then good for them. It’s all about your personal preference. It is YOUR viewing experience at the end of the day.

Don’t worry about 8k. TCL doesn’t offer it, and 8k TV’s are insanely expensive. Go with the 6 series and by the time it dies, 8k will be the norm and much cheaper.

I'm in the market for a new TV (currently have a Panasonic Plasma (TC-P60ST30) that I really like and will move to another room). My budget is up to $1,500 and looking in the 65" range. In addition to the TCL 6 Series mini-LED, should I also be considering TCL 8 series mini-LED...it is $1,125 at Best Buy but I'm not sure I saw it discussed in this thread.

The new TCL 6 series is only coming in 8K.

They aren't discontinuing the 2020 model that is 4K though so you'll have a choice.

What??? That’s nuts. Is the price crazy high? I didn’t realize they announced the new 6 series already.

Pretty much all the new TV's for 2021 have now been shown, CES just finished up.

No pricing yet, but I'd bet they stay quite low and TCL tries to hammer 8K sales as a result while no one else can compete even close to their price/performance at 8K.

So Samsung just revealed their MiniLED pricing and the 55" model starts at $1600. LINK

And it uses a TCL panel and still no Dolby Vision.

Hey folks.

Wanted to check back in here.

I’m having a really bad flickering problem with the HDR it seems. And it only happens with my PS5. Every about 5 minutes the screen flashes off, then comes back on to black with the little HDR symbol in the top right. Then it will flash back to the PS5.

It used to not be bad bad but now it’s almost incessant. I’ve tried switching hdmi ports. I’ve tried changing the picture settings. It doesn’t seem like anything is helping.

This kind of sounds like what happens to my Apple TV every couple of weeks. For me it’s the hdmi port on the appletv. It’s too loose, and the connection will eventually go ape shite until I jostle around the hdmi cord.
