Friend is looking for apartments near campus thought I’d help them out. When I was at LSU about 5 years ago it seemed pretty nice and safe. I had multiple friends who lived there and would visit and walk through that area all the time. I lived in WCA which is close and never had any issues. Just making sure it hasn’t gone to shite or anything before I give someone advice on living there.

You cannot be serious. There’s only one place to live near LSU: EL CID

I would personally stick to the other side of campus, like Burbank (uview, Arlington, wildwood etc.)

How is University Crossroads off of State Street nowadays? I've been toying with grabbing a condo there.

He should stay on the other side of campus off Burbank. Newer complexes and they've added a Rouse's and a bunch of restaurants and bars in that area. Also a bunch of nice ponds to fish in.

I feel like housing at LSU goes through this life cycle:

Super nice, tons of hot sorority girls living there
3-4 years pass, people loiter in the parking lots and eventually someone gets shot
A few more years pass and it's literal section 8 housing or meth heads living there
Then it gets bought up, renamed, rebranded, repainted and the cycle starts over

Goat. 600/month for a 1 bdrm flat on the corner of Janet ave.

Far enough from tigerland where I couldn't hear the music at night, close enough to slide out the bar early if a girl was stupid enought to want to leave.

You’re going to be dealing with a lot of homeless people and crackheads on that side of campus. Just keep in mind, back in 2007 those two PhD Indian students were murdered by those thug pieces of shite at the Edward Gay apartment complex, 100 yards away.

Tigerland and Sharlo were the “safe areas” back in the day. University commons was the new area. Seems like this is no more. I felt reasonably safe at Teakwood village in gardere. GSRI was a different story.

lived in one of those apartments on that block for $525/month 10 years ago

Landlord was strict and didn't take no bullshite, but everything I needed was taken care of immediately, and she confided in me after I lived there for a few years that her friends told her she should raise the rent, but she didn't want to because she was a former teacher and knew students needed cheap housing. I loved her for that

Pretty spot on. It’s also pretty easy to tell where most places in BR stand in that cycle lol.

My little brother lived at the Venue a couple years ago. He said it was safe because all the criminals lived there and they weren't going to rob each other

I lived there as recently as summer 2017 and it was alright. No issues from me and my apartment faced the parking lot out towards Buffalo Wild Wings. You'll pay for the convenience of living right next to campus though but it is super convenient.

Where he does not want to live is The Hub by the Wal-Mart Grocery.

The best place I lived in was on South Brightside in one of those condominiums across the street from the "Retreat at Brightside" apartment complex. Was on the Tiger Trails route and is just a bunch of grad students and more mature people. Yeah there's some sketch people but I lived there for 2 years and not a damn thing happened to me, my stuff, or any of my neighbors.
