Quite the opposite. I could brag about playing hands for people’s rent, but why? That wasn’t the point of this thread. I just wanted to share with what used to be a good sports board that I played a few hands with one of the GOATs from back when people gave a shite about the NBA. Other people seemed to enjoy the thread and added their own experiences.

You’re the only jealous bitch here.

Haha, last time I went to Cherokee I saw him throw $30K onto the Craps table. I didn’t stick around to see his demise.

amazing to me that you can beat blackjack by following a strategy completely inside your own head but that is considered "cheating"

Using mechanical help I can see calling that cheating but I do see counting cards with no help as cheating.

Just an interesting encounter with one of the most recognizable faces from the NBA.

I find it interesting.

Fiscal pragmatism has never been his thing. In his playing days, he would literally not pack clothes. Just buy new clothes in every city. Think about that for a minute.
Bet he kept a Yankees cap in a bag somewhere.

He was known for taking forever to get dressed and ready to answer questions from the media after games. One night while waiting for him in the Mavs visitor's locker room, I saw him come part of the way out fully dressed, then stop and put a bandanna and a Yankees cap on in front of a mirror. He spent 20 minutes tying the bandanna, putting the Yankees cap over it, and making sure it was just right. The writers from Philly being some of the biggest a-holes in the business might have been part of his reason for doing it..

Another game he was injured, and not playing, but traveling with the team. The Mavs PR people let everyone know he was wanting to talk with the media before the game. We all go in for it, and have to wait 10 minutes for him to come out. The only thing I remember from it is him talking about his mom anointing him with Holy oil.

He was one of my favorite players to watch, and he was amiable every time I talked with him. It sucked we only got to see the Eastern conference teams in Dallas once a season.

I appreciate this story. He came across to me as a down to earth guy considering who he is. Maybe that was because his entourage wasn’t around, but he was pretty relaxed and just wanted to get drunk and have some laughs playing blackjack.

It’s definitely real cards. They still do have a couple of electronic machines though
