Iphone unlocking with mask on?

This morning I realized that my iPhone unlocked while I was wearing my mask. I locked it several times and went through the swipe up unlock sequence and paid attention to the lock icon. It was definitely locked, and unlocked as though I were not wearing a mask.
I double checked and I am on 14.4 on my phone and know I don’t have the latest Apple Watch software because I had an error message from when it tried to install. I know that Apple was working on an Apple Watch unlock solution for iPhones when the user was wearing a mask, but this doesn’t seem to be it, as it’s not released yet (at least not beyond a public beta) and I am not on the most up to date watch software.
Has anyone else had their iPhone magically start to unlock while you have a mask on?

On ios 14.5 your watch will vibrate and show an indicator that its unlocking your phone.

That definitely is not what’s happening here. I don’t mind it at all. It’s just odd.

I noticed it works with my mask on, but not a hat with or without the mask.

better hope your Old Lady doesn;t figure out how to unlock your phone now while you are asleep. The closed eyes function better still work!
