Pre emergent (Too late?)

I’m not sure if I missed the window on it. I got busy and just now have the time to mess with it. I checked my soil temperature and I’m around 52 degrees.
If I can try to put some down, what’s the best option I can get around Baton Rouge? I have centipede.

My opinion, it's never to early or late to build a chemical barrier. You just need to make sure your expectations are realistic based on timing.

Nope, a lot of people jumped the gun, to no fault of there own, and then the freeze hit. Keep an eye on 5 day average of soil temps in your area. When it’s about to hit 50-55, go ahead and apply. Being that it’s late February, the likelihood of more freezes is very low. Soil temp map

Honestly curious because I fall in that category, what does the freeze have to do with preemergent working or not?
It is my understanding you just need to get it down before the seeds fall to prevent them from germinating.

That’s my understanding as well. You have weeds that start germinating around 50 and then again around 70. With the temperatures we had before the freeze I think a lot of those 50 seeds already started. Maybe the freeze affects them, not sure.
What I meant by too early is at this point it may not be enough bang for your buck to do it now. But I’m definitely not an expert.

You’re about 3 degrees away from when crabgrass can start germinating. You can put down prodiamine or dimension.

The freeze might have got people think they jumped the gun but that’s not the case. Short term cold snaps have little impact on long term soil temps. Prodiamine is going to have a solid 8-10 week barrier and a 3-4 residual.

Apply it now.
Best options in my opinion:
1. Prodiamine - water dispersible granule; you spray it. Cheapest per 1000 sq ft
2. Lesco Stonewall - Prodiamine, granular
3. Lesco Dimension - (Dithiopyr) - granular.
I’ve used all three and happy with all of them.
Purchase at Site One Landscape Supply in the Industrialplex off of Siegen - the pricing is excellent.
If you have have historically had crabgrass problem I’d go with the Dimension b/c it will kill small/young crabgrass seedlings that may have germinated before the freeze.

Yea there wasn't any harm in applying before the freeze. All it did was extend your window by about a week. Now is a great time since we'll be hitting mid to upper 70's this week.

Site One doesn’t carry Prodiamine 65 WDG? Thought for sure I've seen it in the store though I recall I bought mine on-line last year. Are they sold out? Do they have Barricade 65 WDG in stock - same chemical product.
I also thought Clegg's carried it, one or the other, but I may be mistaken.

I checked cleggs in denham. They didn’t have any prodiamine 65. Dude offered me some granular pre emergent. 10 minutes later I over heard him telling someone else it’s too late to use pre emergent....

It's not too late at all. I do two spring pre em's. I prefer to be too early with the first and too late with the second. That way everyone is covered. Prodiamine has a residual of 3-4 months. Don't believe that it will protect you in full for that long. That is like saying you just installed a 30 year roof. It will not last you 30 years. Count on 8-10 weeks. If I apply it too early I will be covered by the 8-10 week window. I apply it again at the end of March/early April and I'm extending my window on late season crabgrass.
I have used 19-0-5 granular with barricade and I don't like it as much as liquid barricade.

Does anyone know if site one or anyone local has promdiamine in stock right now? I know I can order it online, but wanted to spray tomorrow.

Apparently Site One doesn’t. I checked their website - well they have spray version Barricade 4FL 1 gal and about $143 per gal.
You might try Plant Tech on Jefferson Hwy - they have some good herbicides but I don’t recall if carry Prodiamine. 65WDG.
