I wonder if this is like a backwards way of giving him a “grayshirt”. Like they don’t have the room in the 25 man class, but will have the room to give him a scholly next year in the 81 total.

I was raised in OG till I was 11.. Most of my family is there...a hidden gem of talent.. ULM and Tech should raid them every year they have a D1 talent...

exactly. After 1 year they can give him a scholarship without a hit on the 25 and, unlike greyshirt (who has to wait until spring semester), he can practice and participate.

A greyshirt signs, and is promised a scholarship. But it doesn't always work out that way. A PWO isn't promised a scholarship.

Looking at the numbers landscape, a good PWO stands a high possibility of getting a schollie at LSU the next several years.

ETA: It's good to see Oak Grove and that area getting some offers, even if PWO, from LSU once again. Back in the day Oak Grove in particular was known as having some of the toughest SOBs around.

You are thinking of the wrong Oak Grove, this kid is from Oak Grove, LA. Allen is a player. About 6’4 240 and moves well. . Plays with a mean streak. Good player on Offense and defense. Was committed Southern Miss for several months.

Oak Grove is a 1A power in NELA. He was committed to Southern Miss so so maybe thought he went to Oak Grove HS in Hattiesburg which is probably the best football program at any level in Mississippi.

Yeah I figured that was what threw him off and it makes since, I just have happened to watch this kid play for the last 4 years so I wanted to point that out.

My bad guys, saw Oak Grove and jumped the gun. My grandmother actually grew up in Oak Grove, LA (mother born in Delhi, both my parents grew up in Monroe/WMonroe) but glad to see the kid get an opportunity regardless!

If he qualifies, which is highly likely, with Tops why would he need a scholarship? A POW gets training table, etc. or not?

TOPS only covers tuition. So it pays about $3,500 of the $8-10,000 (or more) per semester of expenses it costs to go to LSU for an in-state student.

And no, PWO's do not get training table unless they pay for it.

But, walk ons (after being listed on roster for the year) do get the stipend. Or at least they CAN receive the stipend; not all schools do (or can afford to) do that.
