Ok, I’ve been on here saying that you don’t need much coordinator experience to install a defense.

But, if there is concern. Partner Nielsen with Ash or even Reeves. Provide him a safety net.

Saban did this with Golding and he actually had experience.

Just a thought.

I don't think Nielsen wants the job.

I think the job will be Nielsen's if he wants it.

Somebody started a rumor that he won't even interview for the job. Maybe O circles back around to him again whenever the Saints season ends, and makes an offer he can't refuse though.

Nobody knows how this search ends.

bro just relax , O said on radio it’s going to take a couple weeks.

You don’t have to create 30 threads a day about Neilsen

It is still possible the Saints season doesn't end until February 7th (date of Super Bowl). Do you want to risk waiting that long, potentially losing out on other candidates, for a guy who may ultimately tell you no anyway?

O said on the radio that he wanted it done this week. He was hoping Arnett was going to knock it out of the park. He didn't.

Football School is about the start.

You're missing 3 coaches on a defense that stunk it up last year.. With a head coach who is a defensive guy.

The linebackers looked lost. The safeties looked lost.

Why would either take a demotion to position coach here? Reaves is rock solid where he is and it wasn’t Ash’s fault that Herman got replaced. He did a solid job improving what was a bad Texas defense this season. He may not find a DC job this season, but there’s a good chance that he does once the Texas situation plays out.

Florida is offering Ash their safeties position.

Reeves coaches at UAB. They don't even know if they have enough money for football.

Isn't Ensminger still there in some kind of analyst capacity? 2019 proved that he could be useful in a "long time with the team, offering experience and how to navigate the program" kind of background role.

My guess is he is waiting because it is a done deal.

Exactly. At least I hope so.I mean he did hire Pelini without interviewing him, so can't say he uses the best judgment. I hope he's at least looked at other candidates if no decision was made.

those are curse words around here.

While I won't say it's a done deal. I will say that O and Nielsen go back a long time and have a great relationship. If O is blindly waiting on Nielsen until after the Saints season is over he is a fool. My guess, if it is Nielsen he is waiting on, is that they have already had serious discussions about it and if Nielsen doesn't get offered a NFL DC position he is on board. To me that would be the biggest hiccup in all this.

If he has no back up plan if Nielsen says no then yes I would agree. Hopefully Woodward has already told him he needs at least two other acceptable and available candidates to call on immediately if he strikes out with Nielsen.

Nielsen has probably been interviewed already.

Why else would O come out and state in public that "He has a pretty good idea of who its gonna Be."

They have most likely already agreed to a contract, money and everything else.

No need to rush because it's already finished; just waiting for the Saints to be finshed and then it will be announced.......

He was quoted as saying he’d LIKE to have someone by Friday, but I’ve also seen a lot of people posting what you did.

I didn’t hear the interview, only read a few quotes.
