Not saying he should be MVP or was robbed.
But looking at the stats and some research. He definitely should have been talked about more. We are gonna compare him with Josh Allen and Russell Wilson. 2 people who are discussed but won’t win it in all likely.
Numbers below up to that time pre Brees injury.

Drew Brees: pre injury
2,196 pass yards 19 Pass TDs, Passer rating 110.5 with only 3 ints and 72% completion

Josh Allen:
2,405 pass yards 19 pass TDs Passer Rating 97.88 with 5 ints and 67.8% completion.

Russell Wilson:
2,791 pass yards 28 pass TDs passer rating 112 with 11 ints 68.6% completions

Brees throws the ball less than these QBs and his yards per attempt is not as good so therefore they will the yards advantage. TDs are similar even with the lower attempts for Brees. These QBs caught fire at different times. Wilson would struggle week after Brees was injured. And Allen was struggling up to this point. And before injury Brees seemed to catch fire. Not saying he woulda won it, but I’m thinking playing all the games Brees ends up around 34 pass TDs 8 ints and the highest Passer ratting. Just thought I would share. Curious on you guys thoughts on this?

Note: This research was done by mostly my calculator, might not be exact but pretty close. Just letting you know.
Sorry for length of post.

Drew Brees could throw for 6,000 yards, 60 TD's, 72% completions, 7 ints, and a passer rating of 111.1 and still not win the MVP.

Clearly robbed. What did Rodgers do better then Brees that year?

Rodgers had superior numbers that year. At least in terms of 8 less ints

Tds
Less ints
Better passer rating
Better team record
Won head to head

The one everyone should be pissed about should be 2009

I was just referencing the post above about throwing for 6k yards, 60 TDs and having a 111 passer rating wasn't too far off from what Brees actually did in 2011

Pretty sure Rodgers had less TDs.
Brees had 46 and Rodgers 44?
Not sure though.

Rodgers had 48 total TDs (rushing included) in 1 less game
Brees had 47

I think Brees could’ve won it in 2018 if he had kept up his pace. Going into the Cowboys loss, he had a 126 passer rating which is ridiculous. As good as Mahomes was, Brees was still getting a lot of attention up until that Cowboys game.

I still think he got hurt against the Falcons the previous game because his production had a steep drop off after that. If not, Brees may have won MVP and most likely won the SB.

Efficiency stats hurt him against Rodgers but did not help him against Mahomes. The criteria shifts based on who is popular and what narrative works better.

Not quite.

Rodgers per game stats were not much behind Brees compared to Mahomes and Brees. Rodgers had more TDs in one less game. He averaged 312 offensive ypg compared to 337 for Brees. His passer rating was a whopping 12 points higher.

Meanwhile Brees was only slight more efficient. His passer rating was just 2 points higher. If he had maintained his 126 passer rating, he would’ve had a better argument. Mahomes averaged 357 total offensive YPG compared to 268 for Brees. Mahomes had 16 more TDs. Again a way larger difference compared to the difference between Brees and Rodgers in 2011.

Rogers broke the record for highest QBR or something like that. The media loves them some QBR.

Brees set over 15 all time NFL records that season, yet he was barely in contention.

Yup

They always cut him down by saying "well...he's a system quarterback".

Like who isn't

Because mvp is a single season award, not a lifetime achievement.

Single season, Mahomes' numbers were ridiculous. Brees' robbery was in 2009
