Like people used to hold fish up until a few years ago maybe. Or on top of a table, scale, ruler, ice chest, table. I think what I'm saying shouldn't be hard to notice in tons of fish hoist pics lately.

But this one was a 4+ crappie
Maybe two pounds.

People catch 12 ounce sac-a-lait and honestly believe they weight 1.5 - 2 pounds. That isn't a 4 pound sac.

I would have done the same thing. If I caught a 20lb bass it would be cooked that evening.

I don't fish for sport. I fish to catch food because I like the taste of fish. I'll throw a small fish back but those big ones are coming home. Stupid to throw it back.

I was thinking the same thing. I have a duck hanging on my wall only because my buddies wanted to take it to a friend of theirs who was getting into taxidermy, and I was hunting on their place. I begrudgingly handed it over, but said I wanted the duck when he was done.

I would have rathered it been in my pot, but it does look pretty good on the wall, and it was part of my first double. His ole lady tasted good, so it's all good I guess.

If it is I’ve caught a bunch of 4 pound crappie. It’s a good one but it ain’t 4 pounds good. If it’s over 2 it ain’t by much.....

I have caught a 3lb 12oz and a 4lb 1oz crappie...both were larger than this.

A 15 inch crappie is in the 15 inch range.
That crappie might be pushing 3lbs.

Que?

There isn’t anything to judge the size with other than that other fish. Says it was a 1 lb fish. The other fish is a good one but don’t think it’s 4x bigger than the other Unless that coonasses has giant arse hands that doesn’t look like a 4 lb fish or even 3

My input on this whole thread:

It's a sac-a-lait. Crappie and white perch can't live below I10

The fish in his right hand is definitely not a 1 lb fish.
The fish in his rleft hand is damn fine, but I doubt it's close to 4 lbs.
Also the fish in his left hand hides his elbow. Is it bent or straight?

When it comes to trophy fish, which I have never caught, as long as it's not a potential record, I'd be fine with releasing it and getting a replica made.

As for eating a 20 lb bass, I wonder if it would taste as bad as a 20 lb catfish.
I'd bet a 4 lb sac-a-lait still tastes delicious.

In my opinion a 3 lb catfish is pushing the envelope for eating.....I much prefer em 10-12 inches long and fried and on the bone. Bigger than 3 pounds are a blast to catch but not great to eat outside of stew. I don't care for farmed catfish at all....way too bland for me...almost as bad as a Tilapia which are unedible in my opinion.

I caught a crappie at lake Eufala about 35 years ago that was a little under 24 inches long and about 3.5 inches thick through the shoulders....my fist would fit in its mouth...it filled a 48 quart cooler. It looked like a pretty good hybrid....I would have bet it weight 6-8 pounds....it weighed just slightly over 3. It was in June so it was spawned out and probably would have pushed 4 in April....I have caught a few more 3 pound crappie but none as big as that one....I would bet that fish in the picture this time of year is somewhere around 2 pounds....good fish no doubt but not close to 4.

Crappies get heavy here in the fall and winter feasting on spawning shad in preperation for spawning. If that is the case where that fish was caught it could weight close to 3.....but it seems early in the year for them to start packing on the feed.....

They can and do in HUGE numbers in Florida....white perch and specks LOL. I don't know what their family lineage is but in North Georgia theyre all Crappie no matter where they happen to live...and eat better, in my opinion, than anything in fresh water....and its time to stack 'em up!!!!!

I’ve caught some pretty big sac au lait and that is not a 4lb fish. If it is I’ve eaten a whole lot of records.

Like I said. He's purposely being deceitful by holding it like that. His elbow is bent but slightly and holding it towards camera. I don't see it being 4 lbs either.

You can tell the bigger fish is much closer to the camera. Not sure why people are getting upset over people pointing that out.
