Installing 1/2”x 5” hardwood (wood, not pressboard), what nailer/stapler and size staples should I use?

Check the installation instructions that come with the flooring to see what they recommend would be my thought.

Yup, I checked and all the instructions said was to use pneumatic stapler with correct shoe base for thickness. I’m more concerned about if my old nailer used for 3/4” hardwood and 16 gauge staples will work if I adjust the shoe side? Thanks

Assuming you are renting a compressor and nail gun, they will have what you need for your project. Are you putting down Plywood or nailing to existing sub-floor?

Make sure you put down an adequate vapor barrier as well. Allow for 4-6" overlap of joints.

I already have a compressor and floor nailer (16 gauge). In searching the interweb, many recommended a 1 1/2” 18 gauge staple. I’m not sure if this will work in my gun. I also will be installing over underlayment. Nailing to existing 3/4 plywood.

My son installs hardwood flooring. I showed him your question. He said for that size flooring, he uses 16 gauge staples, but for 1/2” flooring you’ll need a plate for your nailer designed for 1/2”
