I have heard, but not tried to take a candle and smoke the proof marks. Use scotch tape, apply to the marks and then lift the tape and apply it to paper. The proofs should be easier to read

I want a 16g double something bad. I can't find anything less than 2500 though so it is going to have to wait.

You mean one with hammers or any 16g double?

Any 16 double, I don't want one with hammers. I want something I can hunt with.

I have an old 16g Fox BST that I believe was my grandfathers. Had no idea it may be worth a few dollars.

Do the barrels look like this ? If so they are Damascus and should only be shot with low pressure shells.

Otherwise this happens

a Rossi with hammers.

Probably the Stage Coach I think. I have one, walked into a gun shop, saw it and asked to see it. The guy said "shite", grabbed it, unloaded it and handed it over. Was his WSHTF weapon. I was a regular, he knew I was going to buy it.
Fun to shoot both barrels at the same time. It'll move some stuff.

I wouldn’t.

I have 2 LC Smiths.
1 with hammers from 1914.
1 hammerless from 1921.

These old shotguns weren’t made for modern loads.
If you decide to shoot, go light and be careful.

There's a company out there, can't recall the name, that sells Damascus-safe shells. Wickowick probably knows it.
