bbvdd, I have found a solution to those pesky Savage magazine catches.

Put a Caldwell bipod on the rifle, and put thick foam pipe insulation on the legs and duct tape it. It adds a little weight, but you will like the way it shoots free hand with the legs folded, and the way it feels slung on your shoulder. Then you can unfold the legs on your porch rail at the house and just shoot stuff.
