Kid was only a sophomore and one of our best defensive players, though he was out for the year with an ACL tear. Got to make better decisions but this still sucks. Why kill someone over pot?

On Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2020, at approximately 9:13 p.m., officers responded to multiple calls of gunshots at The Lodge. Callers reported individuals running from the area in addition to the gunshots being heard.
Detectives responded to the scene to assist and several witnesses and involved persons were identified and interviewed. During the interviews, it was discovered that Winters and two other individuals, Enalisa Blackman and Michael Ifeanacho, planned to buy drugs. The drug deal was set up at the apartment complex where Blackman met two individuals to purchase a couple ounces of marijuana.
During the drug deal, Winters was shot and died on scene. Arrested and charged with Capital Murder are Enalisa Briana Blackman (DOB 11/21/2000) and Michael Tyreek Ifeanacho (DOB 10/23/2000). Both are being held in the Hays County Jail.

Unfortunately there's a segment of people who grow up thinking that any sort of slight or disrespect against them should be met with deadly force. It apparently never crosses their minds that it might be better to walk away from a situation angry than to die or spend the rest of your life in prison.
RIP. Far too young to die, especially over some stupid shite.

War on drugs making weed illegal
Wouldn’t be an issue if you could buy it like booze

These animals will kill over perceived disrespect. For $500? You’d have thugs lined up for miles to kill for that amount of money.
That’s exactly what happened here. They set this guy up to show up with money, they try to rob, he puts up a fight, dead. 3 lives ended over money that wouldn’t cover rent.

That’s terrible. If it were legal, this probably wouldn’t happen. I can go into my local dispensary here in CO and buy an ounce without worrying about anything.

I'm confused, the article makes it seem like Winters was buying weed with the two who were arrested, was he instead buying it from them and they tried to rob him then shot him?

Could be a case where the player went with the two arrested and they turned on him during the deal because it was a setup.
Happened to some rapper in New Orleans a few years back. Got in a car to buy some drugs with some people he knew and they ended up shooting him in the car iirc.

That's some dumb sh*t.
May not seem like it at the tail-end of a 2-9 season, but I think Texas State got a good one when they hired their current OC.
Jacob Peeler on Texas State Bobcats.com was the WR coach at Ole Miss, Cal before that, and LaTech before that. He's on the Billy Napier path to greatness. He was known as a WR coach that developed players and recruited well.
quote:So the shooters just stuck around for the cops to arrest them? The story doesn't make sense to me it says one of the shooters met two men to buy two oz. So does that mean Winters was dealing? No mention of an arrest for whoever was dealing. Dealer could of had a large quantity money, or pot, to kill for. Why would the guy who got arrested for being one of the shooters tell the cops he was there to buy drugs? Maybe the cops arrested them both to get one to talk. Why would all of this info even be in the story? Half of it sounds like stuff that would come out in court, not be in the first newspaper article about it.

I have friends that if they have pot in the car (small recreational amounts) from a legal state and are driving down South they won't drive through Texas; they're still draconian about weed.
And that's why it's sill a big money-maker for street hoods in Texas.
Change the law and you stop nonsense like this. Nobody would be going to a seedy neighborhood in the middle of the night (during Covid I might add) just to buy a little weed.

Weird that folks would risk their lives for a non addictive substance.
