First time playing this and it’s a great looking game. Rolling is a little clunky but I assume I’ll just block everything instead.

Rolling speed is affected by your equipment weight. If you're over 50%, rolling is definitely not great.

Dang. It's 70% in DS3.

Yeah I figured that out from testing but as a knight, I’ve kind of just accepted I can’t roll.

People have used camera mode to determine there is a little balcony with an item on it behind the door.
Also based on the door's flavor text it appears the door doesn't have a key to open it, but is the type of door opened with a mechanism somewhere else, so perhaps there's some hidden switch or lever. Or maybe the whole thing is a massive troll.

In reading twitter and reddit, it seems like people have tried pretty much everything (i.e. different world tendencies, getting the platinum trophy, etc.). I want to know what that damn item is!

I've been dabbling in it. As a huge fan of the original (imported the asian copy and then bought again on US release), I've really enjoyed going back to it.
The only thing that's taking some getting used to is the speed. After playing faster games in this genre, I'm not sure to the much more methodical approach required.

Door has been opened and item(s) collected. I'll not post spoilers but it doesn't seem to be anything earth shattering.
Here's a video of some guy doing it

Yeah, I'm slightly disappointed, but still a cool Easter egg.

Fans have wanted that set for years. I’m happy with it. Apparently it’s a tribute to someone that loved it and passed away

I didn't know that, but that's a great tribute!
I had just hoped it was some clue about maybe The Northern Limit archstone as DLC or a new Bluepoint remake in the works.

I’m not very far in (I’ve done 1-1, 1-2, 2-1 and about to fight the 4-1 boss), but it’s not exactly what I was expecting. It’s utterly brutal getting to the boss, but then the bosses are either easy, can be cheesed, or both. So far.
But I am dying a ton. I think more than I did in the early stages of Bloodborne, Sekiro, or Dark Souls (I haven’t played the other Dark Souls games). It’s just on the way to the bosses.
Beautiful game, runs perfectly, etc.

It’s the game’s only weakness. Since it was From’s first foray into the genre, they hadn’t yet mastered the boss design that they’ve shown with DS3 and Sekiro. No multi phase fights, most bosses are passive, limited movesets, etc
That being said, there are 3-4 bosses that are pretty tough (and awesome) and may give you a little trouble.

And that's why despite being a remake purist I would have given them some slack had they tweaked the boss fights a little. Most of them are very vanilla or very gimmicky. Ideally they could have offered an "enhanced" boss fight toggle option or something, and let people choose between the traditional boss fights or a new and improvement boss fights with new mechanics.

I enjoyed it, although it’s clearly the most uneven difficulty of any Souls game I’ve played (Dark Souls Remastered, Bloodborne, Sekiro, and now this).
Granted, I sort of fell into being a magic (and magic scaled swords) user, which is apparently “easy mode” by all accounts. I might go back and try Knight or Temple Knight at some point.
But it was pretty difficult for me until I got over the hump with some of the second levels of each world. Once I did, it was sort of surprisingly easy.
The 2-2 boss was a fun fight (and a fricking visual marvel, holy shite), but I beat him first time. The 3-2 boss gave me a bit of trouble, and same for 3-3 (cool twist). But the hardest parts of the game (at least how I played it) were getting to the bosses, not fighting the bosses.
Still a really enjoyable game. Probably not a bad one for first time Souls people to try out.

The gameplay is tedious and I can tell it’s something adapted from computer. It’s going to take major adjustment for me. It seems to require precision rather than run and slash. I like it but I will not lie, it’s not something you can stumble your way through. Probably why it has a loyal following.

With some of the QoL changes and 60 fps this game was much easier for me than DS3 or Bloodbourne, especially the bosses. However the visuals and performance still made for a great time.
