it doesn't matter. if she gets into a runoff she's going to win because voting will be light for the runoff. just like last time when she was in the runoff and trailing Bodi White, his lazy arse voters stayed home on the runoff election day, and hers got out and voted. Same thing is going to happen. Then people want to blame the shitty politicians who get into office, when it's their own fricking fault. White people suck at showing up to the polls other than when it's a presidential election.

you are right. Zachary and Central will have light voting for the runoff. That's where Carter needs to get votes. Broome's constituents in NBR will definitely be voting in the runoff

Carter sucked up all the money in the race

Watson was known to be looking at mayor for over a year. He should have been working towards building a campaign, raising money and lining things up across the parish.
He didn’t do anything.
Along comes Carter who decides to run at the last minute and he took advantage of his name recognition and the fact that Watson didn’t do anything leaving a large vacuum.
It’s all on Watson. He was a do nothing candidate.

Watson thought he had people doing that for him. Then he pissed off his wife and those people found other horses to back. Carter to make the runoff and Piazza to cut into his younger crowd base. My wife works with two women who went to his wedding. Those two were all MW for mayor 2 years ago. They wouldn’t piss on him today if he was on fire. I don’t know the guy or his wife. All I know is that since March, word spread quickly that he pissed the wife off and his chances sank like a rock.

Well, only one candidate is ready to defend the state against an invasion of AOC.

I don’t know the guy personally, but a year ago I was hoping he’d come on and challenge Broome. I would have donated to his campaign, but nothing ever happened. He was silent.

What you say makes sense. The guy’s personal life took him out and Carter took advantage. Luckily he did because without finances Watson had no chance in a runoff.

He's been divorced for like 6 years. The number of idiots who come in here spouting shite as fact when they are fricking clueless is astonishing

A Trump loss could spur a major turnout in those areas.

Regardless of your opinion of Watson or Carter, it is CLEAR that Carter has a better shot at beating Broome. Whether due to name recognition, money, or both.

Watson, Piazza, and Wicker need to get on the goddamn trail for Carter.

Lesser of two evils needs to prevail here. Broome getting re-elected is the end of Baton Rouge.

Like I said, I don’t know the guy. I was ready to jump on his bandwagon. The problem is he never got it going. He let his opponents define him.
In the end I voted for Carter who had a real campaign and wasn’t just going through the motions even though I was initially leery of his motive for running.

I’d urge all those who oppose the mayor to vote in four weeks and don’t let your feelings for Watson or Piazza blind you to not voting against the real problem.

I didn't vote for Carter yesterday but I'll vote for him in the runoff. I don't think he'll beat Broome though.

If he's been divorced for 6 years what does pissing his wife off have to do with it? And how many votes does she have?

And what the hell...while we're at it what did he do to piss the old broad off for in the first place?

pics of wife and well the two women that went to the wedding?

Martini all I have heard is female gossip from my wife and her friends. Two of them attended the wedding. The only side they know is the wife’s side. My understanding is she got posses at him during the last 6-12 months and as a result starting telling friends “what really happened”. All these women vote and talk to other women. The 35-50 crowd of white upper middle class women in BR have heard all of this during the last 6 months. Don’t know these people. Don’t know what’s true/not true. I don’t get involved in the discussion. Just know the first topic that comes up in a conversation about the Mayor’s race is the information about his personal life. It actually shocks me that anybody in BR hasn’t heard women talking about this topic. My only point is that it killed his campaign.

Since I’m still under 30, I don’t talk politics or gossip with many women in that demo. I have heard all kinds of “hints” at what Watson did, but I have never heard exactly what rumors his ex-wife started about him. Now that the election is over, would someone spill the beans? Is it all hookers and blow? Pedo stuff? Gay stuff? Meth? Hamsters? Bumsteers? Paid a stripper to have an abortion? No one is ever specific.

Carter served in the legislature for a long while.
Before that he was the LSU head tennis coach. He had a high name recognition in old south BR.

He’s not a spring chicken and his late registration made some mad, but he’s a better candidate than Broome. Will he be able to fire up SG, Central, Zachary and other suburban voters in enough numbers to offset Broome’s built in advantages? Probably not, but who knows what might happen.

Election history-Mayor-President EBR
2020 (last night) 205,102 total votes cast for Mayor

2016 190,933 votes cast November and 115,058 in the runoff.

2012 192,118 votes cast November no runoff Holden wins

Note how many fewer voters voted in December in 2016.
