he fed off of the other Lbs last year...They most likly got him in the right positions and he wasnt keyed on like Queen and Phillips was so he played more free

From the start of the MooState game, he’s looked like he’s waiting for someone else to make the tackle. Like Patrick Queen is going to fly in out of thin air and take the ball carrier down. Like he’s reluctant to hit anyone. It’s beyond tentative, it’s almost like he’s playing scared. Clearly some of it is discomfort from the new role, but again, we miss Aranda as LB coach as much or more as we miss him as DC.

The entire defense looks lost.

This is true. Too many players are having a problem with thinking too much.

Clark didn’t forget how to play in the offseason.

With no spring and the players being gone for a couple of months who knows where he is compared to last year. But BO also did not forget how to coach and his defense was never like this.

He’s a 3-4 ILB Those guys are really meant to play in a box between the tackles Now he’s one of 2 LBs on the field most of the time, asked to have the range to play the whole field He doesn’t fit the new defense unless he’s playing DE in it

I don’t agree with you very often, but I definitely do on this point. The scheme and assignments aren’t the same. We’ve had other players in the past who were great in a role and had to change roles and everyone wondered why they suddenly sucked.

This isn’t a pass for Bo, though. It’s his job to put the right guys in the right places to succeed on the field. Right now, it doesn’t look like Clark is cut out for 4-3 MLB, yet he’s still there blowing assignments.

Im not gonna sit here and try to play Xs and Os but I think this is why Jacobey Stevens is so good down low. He's physical enough to play on the LOS and has average cover ability as a safety which translates to above-average coverage ability as a LB. Hope that makes sense.

That’s generous.

Our defense got torched by Bama ole miss and Florida last year. We have not gotten even weak teams off the field on third down all the way back toChavis.

Losing 9 starters is a lot of it.

The lack of understanding of assignments is part of it.

Not winning one on ones at the line against these lesser(supposedly) teams is a big part of it.

Yes maybe the ILB of a 3/4 vs MLB of a 4/3 is challenging to many.

I agree with you about Stevens. I think he should replace Clark. It would allow him to match up better in pass D, while still being big enough in the run game.
