I think we are slowly getting there.

I live in Houston. Power is crazy cheap ($0.08 / kw-hr) . Every so often I call some solar companies to give me a bid.

5 years ago, we calculated a 25 year payoff. Recently, we calculated a 11 year payoff. Once it gets to a 5 year pay off, I’m in!

Do the Houston REPs offer net metering? If so, does that move the needle on your payback at all?

Power is deregulated. So , if you want net metering, you have to sign up with a power company that offers that. Power companies that do offer net metering have much higher energy rates. The best I know about is Green Mountain Energy at $0.16/kw-hr.

as far as resources a great place to start is the 12 Volt Bible. It’s primarily for boat systems but you have to have an understanding of 12 volt systems and how to set them up and manage them

RV appliances should help in that direction.

Thanks for the weekend discussion. It's not entirely off topic.

After watching Pandoras promise on prime, I am so absolutely positive that the climate change movement is 100% politically driven.

If people dont accept nuclear as the future of clean energy, they don’t care about the climate.

There are fail safe and meltdown proof reactor designs that need support. Ironically, a good bit of the anti-nuclear movement has now become more afraid of climate change. Meltdown proof designs would be a win win for companies like General Dynamics.

So if you do it yourself it is pretty cheap to get solar. Cities often drive up costs of installation enormously, sometimes even requiring engineers for the installation. It isn't something complicated for a roofer though. If you have nice sunny access on the ground you have a cheap installation spot that will allow you to keep you panels in very clean, optimum working condition.

If you use microinverters you cut out a lot of inefficiencies of solar panels. IDK if you can battery bank the a/c power though...

Just bumping this, thinking about clean energy stocks this morning. Some of the more popular ones seem to have been on a tear since March lows. Wondering if anyone has thoughts on any CE stocks that are currently undervalued or about to pop. Seems like it would be a smart play but also feels like upside might be baked into prices already. Thoughts?
