Would SVG bring in Bob Beyer as an assistant? Edit: Woj: Joining Pels staff

Beyer was with him for his entire Orlando and Pistons runs. Been coaching college and NBA a loooonnnng time.
Currently on Walton’s staff in Sacramento.
Worked heavily with JJ in Orlando to help him with off ball movement.
He’s a disciple of “Motion Offense” with everyone constantly moving and touching the Ball, lots of cutting and so on. He is not beholden to it though. He helped tweak the Pistons offense to more heavily involve Drummond years ago.
SVG refers to him as a teacher and an expert in “tweaking systems”.
Seems like he’d be someone that SVG would want again since they’ve worked together so long.

So, is this good? I've not seen this name other than this one post.

It was just obvious. He is was with him in Orlando and Detroit.
Motion offense guy. Older coach. Been in coaching a long time. Highly respected as a “teacher” and adaptable coach. Still need to bring in some younger guys.

I like the sound of it. Our young guys should be able to keep moving and wear teams out.

Damm was coming to report this.

I said it first in the assistants thread! Lol

Like it. He’s going to be here for the long run. Much better than some of the guys who will probably be one and done when coaching jobs open up next season.

is this the #2 guy or is there someone else coming?

I doubt he’s the lead assistant. He’s just a guy that Stan likes and trusts and have coached together a long time.

A couple big names are likely waiting on the OKC head coach domino to fall.
Charles Lee, Nate McMillan, Brett Brown, Weaver (if he doesn't go back to Australia) could all be candidates for lead assistant

finch definitely not coming back?
if he’s not getting a HC job why wouldn’t he be considered?

It's possible, but I don't see him coming back. He ran the offense, and the other day Griff or Stan (don't remember which one), stated how the guys had issues picking up the offense.
Plus him not getting the HC job here, may have a sour taste in his mouth.

I think he ends up in Toronto or Houston personally

Houston I could maybe see but they are rumored to be in advanced talks with McMillan. Who I would presume to take the associate head coach and Silas is considered more offensive focused. So Finch would presumably be coming in as the third guy. Toronto also seems pretty set and it would probably be pretty messy to bump anyone to install Finch as a lead assistant. So he’d probably be taking a step back in title/salary there.
So would Finch leave to take a lesser position in a new city for likely less money? Don’t know if he has family or not but you’d also be doing so in the middle of a school year with a much shortened off season.
But as Soggy mentioned, it probably also comes down to who’s offense was it really? Finch came in to help elevate the offense, but was it Gentry still controlling the strings? If so it might be that the complaints SVG/Griffin mentioned about the offense were not of Finch’s making, but Gentry’s bullheaded insistence on teams always playing one way. And that might also create some frustration with Bzdelik as well.
Plus I do find it odd neither Bzdelik or Finch have been let go officially or strongly rumored to being courted elsewhere. When both are considered two of the better assistants in the league. When we are now getting into November and the estimated season start is two months away.

Finch was rumored to be the front runner for the HC spot in Indiana. I think it also depends on what happens with OKC. If Vanterpool is their guy could see Finch going back to Minnesota
Posted on 11/1/20 at 2:40 pm to BallHawk
Yeah, the Indiana spot got filled by Nate Bjorkgren.
Minnesota might make sense given Finch's history + reputation with building offenses around premiere big men. Though they have Vanterpool as their lead assistant, but that is certainly a place where he could fit and come in like a second associate head coach ala Bzdelik did.
I just wouldn't dismiss the possibility of either him or Bzdelik staying. Because it seems like a lot of people just think it is a foregone conclusion and I'm not so sure.
