Colorado was great for a while in addition to Oklahoma. Nebraska probably should've beaten FSU and won the first of three straight NCs after the 1994 Orange Bowl. Awful penalty bailed out the Noles

No kidding. That was Bowden’s first title, so both coaches had the so-called ‘monkey’ on their back. The kick was even close. I feel like this is one of the more underrated endings to a championship/bowl game. It’s not one that gets talked about a lot. If the kid makes the field goal, it would be an all-timer.

Colorado was great for like 4 years.

Then they were good to average throughout the rest of the 90's.

Oklahoma was down in the 90's. So it totally explains Nebraska's dominance of the Big8/12. They consistently got Top 5 rankings because of name and record due to Conference...and then consistently got speed taught to them in bowl games until the 90's.

They were always very good but never great because they weren't tested during the year and it seemed speed shocked them in the bowl games.

When Osborne lost the Natty to preseason unranked Miami in 1983 while Nebraska was #1 all year and had a 20-something game winning streak Osborne was still 6-4 in bowl games despite looking like the most dominant program in CFB...after that he continued to lose in the 80's...and his bowl record was something like 8-12 before the mid-90's.

The deal is Nebraska got a false sense of who they really were because of the mid-90's sellout and destroyed the program by firing a coach who was successful and did what Nebraska did best...run the option.

They didn't. In 2008, the Seminoles finished 9-4 and in 2009 they were bowl eligible before playing Florida to finish out the season. They beat a pretty good West Virginia team in their bowl game to send Bowden out a winner. The very next season, Jimbo Fisher's first, they won 10 games and appeared in the ACC Championship Game.

That's not what you would call "destroying a program." Bobby Bowden continued to coach well beyond his prime but he did not destroy Florida State. Jimbo Fisher did that.
