The main ones that come to mind are American aquarium and Isbell. Mainly Isbell. That shite isn’t not southern rock or country. No fiddles no banjo. It’s closer to John Mayer than Turnpike

I think it depends on the album.

Sirens of the Ditch- Rock
JI & 400 Unit- Rock
Here we Rest- Country/Americana
Southeastern- Country/Americana
SMTF- Americana
The Nashville Sound- Rock/Americana
Reunions- Rock/Americana

It’s hipster

Lol wut? He only started singing about politics in 2017. The vast majority of his catalogue is extremely relatable. I guess you think the songs he sung in his time with DBT are “hipster” too?

I actually can’t get over how bad of a take this is. Texas Country is not the only country. His country is more southeast, since he’s from Alabama.

The majority of his songs are either country or southern rock. I’m starting to wonder how familiar you really are with him.

Most of his songs are mixes of genres, but there are quite a few that are flat out country.

Country
- Goddamn Lonely Love
- Hurricanes and Hand Grenades
- In a Razor Town
- The Devil is My Running Mate
- Cigarettes and Wine
- Alabama Pines
- Codeine
- Save it for Sunday
- Tour of Duty
- Cover Me Up
- Travelling Alone
- Live Oak
- Different Days
- Speed Trap Town
- Tupelo

Southern Rock
- Decoration Day
- Outfit
- The Day John Henry Died
- Danko/Manuel
- Never Gonna Change
- Easy on Yourself
- Brand New Kind of Actress
- Down in a Hole
- Try
- Dress Blues
- Grown
- Shotgun Wedding (GOAT)
- Good
- However Long
- No Choice in the Matter
- Go It Alone
- We’ve Met
- Stopping By
- Daisy Mae
- Never Could Believe
- Heart on a String
- If It Takes a Lifetime
- How to Forget
- The Life You Chose
- Something More than Free
- Palmetto Rose
- Cumberland Gap
- Molotov

That’s just off the top of my head

Now I know you have no clue what you’re talking about. Isbell’s wife, Amanda Shires, plays fiddle on most of Isbell’s tracks since 2011.

Check Wikipedia or Discogs. She’s credited with fiddle on every album since Here We Rest.

I listened to all of his top 5 most played songs on Spotify. Didn’t hear a damn fiddle or banjo. Only coffee shop sounding shite.

That’s because all of those are off his last two albums. Listen to any of his first 4 albums or his DBT songs.

Over where I've been recording some, they told me that Riley Green has been coming in there some. I said, " oh yeah?". Now I know who he is. This is the first I have heard of him, other than from them. He's not a bad singer, needs better songs.

I see what you mean now. Much better I’ll give the older stuff a chance.

american aquarium has some definite southern rock songs

the luckier you get

as does isbell: try

perhaps you just haven't heard them. at their core, they are rock bands.

quote:

No fiddles

you mean his fiddle player wife that plays with him? that fiddle player?

bro, it sounds like you just don't know what you're talking about because there is a ton of evidence that would suggest both of those bands have "southern rock" qualities to them. maybe dig just a little deeper and you'll find them

Turnpike didn't break up. They are on a hiatus. Insert Ross "we were on a break" gif.

Anyway, they are proof that you can still make something that has some depth and appeal to both common folks and hipsters.

Yeah.

Did you see where he also had to change the words for "I wish country still got played on country radio?"

Riley Green has just about had it with the politics of country music lately.

quote:

His incredible new single, “I Wish Grandpas Never Died” recently received a radio edit changing the mic drop line “I wish country music still got played on country radio,” to “I wish George Jones still got played on country radio.”

quote:

Not afraid to speak his mind, Riley voiced his frustrations last night with a new song he’s been working on called “Leave My Country Alone.”

quote:

"They wanna change all the words to my songs, wish they’d leave my country alone.”
