re: Why do Black Americans refer to themselves as African-Americans?
quote:

You know I see a disconnect between the war on drug and this take on slavery. The war on drugs as all about making it a serious crime to USE drugs, not just sell them. Being in possession was the problem as much as selling drugs. Yet the white slaver is somehow not as much to blame as the African who sold the slave. Here is a little fact....if there wasn't a market for slaves, if the white slaver did not exist, slavery in the United States would not have existed. Black folks could've gone about the African continent and rounded up every black person save one...and that one would have had a helluva mess on his hands if the white slaver hadn't BOUGHT human beings. And, coincidentally, if the white slave owner had not bought human beings from the white slave trader the black person holding a continents worth of human lives would have either been forced to kill em all, kill some, or release them all. But no, it was the black person rounding up slaves who was to blame for the evil of slavery. Hell, white folks were the real victims, right????

Uhhh.... what?

Wanna try that again in English? Why do you go into EVERY thread and post some long, rambling, incoherent, paragraph-less drivel - usually about the war on drugs or race?

By any measure this is true. There were slaves in North Africa who were very wealthy merchants and traders....there really is no comparison between the two unless of course you are trying to make excuses for the version that was practiced by white people....

Lol. You sound like Whoopie talking about "it wasn't rape, rape." Stop making excuses for slavery, you morally relativistic asshat.

re: Why do Black Americans refer to themselves as African-Americans?
It came about shortly after a story on TV back in the 80’s (Dateline or 20/20 type show) about American soldiers that fathered children while serving in Vietnam. Then these children grew up and were trying to reconnect with their American fathers. Anyway, all throughout the show they referred to these kids as “Asian Americans”. Next thing you know the term African American was born.

That's b/c white Americans can pinpoint their ancestral lands. ADOS can't for obvious reasons.

Identity politics to create division.

I’m totally against hyphenated Americans.
