Rank the Atlantic / Carribean / Central America Countries for vacation
I have only been to Cozumel. Would like to make a trip to other spots over the next couple of years.
What would be your ratings of locations from best to worst?
A friend of mine has been to a few spots and said Jamaica and Belize were not her favorites. Caymen Islands were one of her favorites along with Costa Rica.

You might want to group into touristy, off the beaten path, high end

Can second the Caymans

Beautiful, great food, plenty to do and easy to get around. Also very safe and not third world.

How about mid range pricing with old style laid back attitude. Would like to go hang out for 4-5 days. Maybe somewhere with some interesting history. Flying back into Houston direct would be great also.

I’ve only been to 4 but here is my order

Costa Rica
Curaçao
Mexico(NA but whatever)
Turks and Caicos

I liked all of them but Turks is a little too chill for me I like a faster pace.

It's illegal to go to Havana to hang out. Why would you suggest this?

There are lots of places where you can hang out on a beach. For 4-5 nights in places with some affordable, interesting sights, I'm going to suggest:

1) Guatemala -- You could split your 4-5 nights between the very pretty colonial city of Antigua and Lake Atitlan (three different Mayan languages are spoken by the varied communities around the lake).

2) Panama -- The Casco Antiguo is the old part of the city, built starting in 1680 when the pirate Henry Morgan set fire to the older city. You can easily enjoy a day there, spend a day seeing the canal, spend a day or two in the remarkable national parks by the canal (best rainforest that I've seen, with incredible wildlife).

3) Roatan/Utila -- I haven't been to the Honduran Bay Islands since 1997, so maybe some of the charm is gone, but I loved Utila. It was what the Caribbean used to be. The culture on these islands is fascinating, because the islands were settled by English-speaking colonists. And the diving/snorkeling is amazing.

4) Barbados -- OK, so Barbados isn't necessarily cheap, but Bajan culture is great, and I met lots of interesting people. There are some great historical sites, and the beaches are great. If you want to combine a great beach vacation with authentic culture and sights, then Barbados is a solid choice.

It really depends on where you go within a country, but generally (and emphasis on ecotourism):

Costa Rica - Set up well for tourism, they have their act together. Great first destination for Central/South America.

Ecuador - Some great places near Quito, and also the Galapagos.

Panama - Still a bit rough but some good destinations.

Colombia - Beautiful country and if you are looking for more of a city experience this is the place. Good people too.

Peru - A little more difficult than the previous but it's the place to go for an actual Amazon trip, and also has Machu Picchu.

Guyana - Georgetown is a dump and ecotourism is limited - but it's among the best for wildlife when you get out to the lodges.

Bermuda gets forgotten since it is off by itself in the middle of the atlantic, but it is nice and has great beaches.

Any person who downvoted my Havana post should go there right now and see how Cuba is treating visitors during the pandemic.

Then report back if you can get out of there. It's hell on earth right now.

I agree on Bermuda. The beaches were absolutely stunning. Water was a little cold, and there were some man of war the first few days we were there. We had a great time, and there are a bunch of golf courses on that tiny island.

Also, the people in Bermuda were the nicest of any destination to which I have traveled. I saw a local leave a restaurant and walk across the street to help a tourist who was lost.

Their food leaves a lot to be desired though.
