Any of you guys have any advice on how to keep rubber boots from cracking. I have a pair of Xtratuf deck boots that I wear daily and they starting to crack. They are kept inside out of the weather. Someone told me to try tire shine. Any tips would be helpful.

When I duck hunted I would spray my hip boots down with WD-40 at the end of the season, and hang them up. I'm sure there are better products now.

Keep them clean and store them indoors in a dark place. My experience is that no matter what protectant you use, keeping the uv off of them is the biggest help

I always wonder about the baws that got their knee boots between their truck cab and bed. No way they last too long.

When I was pipelining we would treat our Lacrosse boots with Armor All. And we didn’t keep them between the bed and the cab.

Had the same thing happen. Usually the cheap $20 walmart kind and they start cracking at the ankles. Back when I lived up north they were the best late-night dog walking boots - you could slip them on in a second and buck the snowdrifts while the dog does his thing. Not so great if they have a quarter-sized hole.

Anyway I quit buying the super cheap kind, store them away from sun (and away from my dehumidifier too) and try to hit them with something like armor all or even cooking spray.

I'm not sure about WD40 because that's a solvent. Might do more harm than good over long term. But I'm not a scientist so go with what you know.
