I find one of the most entertaining parts of the game is 'getting even' when these buttholes attack me. Hey, I'm a peaceful guy but mess with the bull...

Danish fricks got the best of me. I slipped up. Spent all my hammers on international games while Harold built war bombers and iron clads. Woops. I didnt build triplanes fast enough.

Rolled assyria next game. Took Egypts capital before meeting any other civs so no warmonger penalty. Decent start so far. Assyria has to snowball though or they are useless so this will be fun.

Me and jmurdah got our shite pushed in today by a buddy. Heavy micro-managing makes such an incredible difference

yeah. tile management, worker management, Specialist management, combat management, all on a multiplayer timer is a lot to handle.

youve really got to plan out every single citizen growth and tile improvement

I love Spain and Shoshone on True Earth maps. Spain's 500 gold for being the first to discover wonders is a great early game bonus(as is double yield for settling near a wonder)...and The Rock of Gibraltar is right there.

Shoshone is great for being able to select your bonus from huts and Composite Bowman>Archers.

Just did a 2v2vAI game.

The other 2 human players quit before turn 60 bc we were steam rolling them. I was Greece and my buddy was Attila. The hoplites, battering Rams and special archers Attila gets are just insane that early in the game

I've never played this game. But it's been in my steam library for like 3 years.

It really was incredible. The hoplites are just so good on the ground and with a little help from an overpowered range unit, my God.

And then the battering rams come in and just dominate cities

Washington is a great ally but you've got to keep your military strong for him to respect you and not push you over.

I personally enjoy playing as Egypt, Greece and Rome. Egypt is fun to go for a culture victory with spamming wonders. Greece for the same reasons OP mentioned. Rome is great with the mod that extends each era without slowing down production a ton. Lets you really get good usage out of their strong early-game siege units if you want to expand and use their passive to solidify quickly.

Lost my Assyria game to an Austria who snowballed on another continent. Oh well. I was stuck on an island and couldn't really siege.

Rolled Zulu on Pangea (immortal) but couldn't really utilize Impis due to my start and terrain. Took 1 shitty CS but mountains and forest pinned me in. my science is fricked too so yea

Impis with honor tree are indeed ridiculous though. I just didn't have enough terrain to snowball early. But I see the potential

Zulu could be fun if you get a great start. Happiness and Gold always an issue though

Just like with league, if I stuck with 1 civilization I'd be a beast but I roll random to keep things fresh

China is my new jam. Promoted chu no kus are ridiculous.

Taking over a capital with all the wonders you could never build (Parthenon Alhambra etc) is so satisfying. Eat shite wonder spamming arabia

Poland in my crosshairs, will get more wonders from Warsaw (statue of zeus). But then have to deal with Japan and Mongolia. I'll out tech genghis eventually and we have a DoF so no worries. Morrocco was neutered by Japan and I have a DoF with them so nbd. Japan will be a problem

Civ 6 question for anyone:

Current game summary - Started a game as Rome (for the beginner bonuses of insta monument & trading posts for every city settled). Starting location was a little weird... its a large continent but it is surrounded by water. Russia, France and 3 City States were on the continent with me. Also had two natural wonders with me. All other Civs are on another landmass that I haven't explored yet. When I realized the isolation, I quickly wiped out Russia & France even though I didnt plan on going for domination. I just wanted all of the land to myself. It is probably around turn 100 now and I have 9 cities and I am suzerain for the three city states on the continent with me. I have access to pretty much every land type & resource (niter is even starting to pop up). Gold is rolling in from all of the trade routes I've set up. The land is big enough for me to put in another city or 2 if needed as well (not sure if their is a specific number of cities I should try to aim for in the first half of game).

Question on strategy going forward - how important is it that spend the resources to reach out to the other civs immediately? Seems like with the positioning and isolation that I can get a jump on culture and/or science and just keep building those up in my cities until the other Civs reach out to me. Ive already built the Colosseum and the pyramids.

Outside of Babylon and Korea for science, I always liked India for terrace farms, Shoshone to claim early territory / choke other Civs and to use pathfinders to find huts and upgrade to ridiculously early composite bowmen, England for insane navy (rush great lighthouse, too) and the OP longbowman, and Venice is always fun on emperor or below if I'm tired of micromanaging + you get crazy money from double trade routes.

Did anyone play the vox populi mod? It completely changes the game by overhauling the ai to make them much more challenging and balances the civs and policy trees among many, many other changes. It plays like a completely different game.

Eta: Aslo, Greece for diplomacy and Spain is also awesome if you can snipe a natural wonder or two, but it's a total crapshoot.

Outside of maybe Halo 2 and 3, I probably have put more hours into Civ V than any other game. I was terribly disappointed in VI, but it's possible I just never gave it enough of a chance.

pretty important. extra trade partners, ability to bribe AI to go to war vs others to thin their armies before you invade, setup DoFs to do research agreements. could be first to setup world congress. this is all Civ5 based but i imagine six is similar.
