2021 five-star running back Camar Wheaton is one of the top prospects in the nation and LSU football is in the mix to land him.

Wheaton, 5-foot-11/190 lbs from Garland, TX (Lakeview Centennial), is rated in 247Sports’ composite rankings as the No. 2 player in the state of Texas and the No. 2 running back in the nation. He’s also rated as the No. 19 overall 2021 recruit in the nation.

247Sports’ Shea Dixon recently updated Wheaton’s recruitment and noted that the talented running back is “putting recruiting on the back burner” for now.

Dixon says that Oklahoma, Texas, LSU and SMU are teams to “really monitor” as Wheaton inches closer to a decision.

quote:

Wheaton is described by 247Sports midland region recruiting analyst Gabe Brooks as a “big-play back with outstanding top-end speed”.

Brooks continued his evaluation of Wheaton by saying he’s a “big-play threat on every touch and is among the nation’s top 2021 running back prospects with long-term early-round NFL Draft ceiling”.

I know there has been a lot of talk about Hargrove and flipping the Auburn RB commit Goodwin. What are the recruitniks thoughts on who we likely land?

Wheaton could be in for a weird ride if he's really not doing recruiting until he can visit, because visits may never happen this year, and even being a 5-star not every team is just going to wait around for him and potentially be left with nobody if he doesnt choose them come early next year.

It's weird times right now and basically ignoring recruiting till you can maybe start to take visits could really leave you with options you didn't really want in the end. To each their own, but I dont see us, or a handful of other of his supposed top schools waiting around till February not taking a RB or 2 because they may have a shot at him. We'd happily call it a day if a guy like Goodwin flipped to us at any point the next few months.

Maybe but according to the writers, he’s not doing visits nor is he really answering phone calls.

If OU does lead, it’s a complete guess by whomever says it.

Why would any 5 star recruit, who are implied to be projected first rounders, consider UT at all at this point? They do not have a proven track record of developing talent for the NFL since Mack Brown left.

If he commits soon, it's OU.

If that happens SMU will take him.

I see no need for another RB in the 2021 class. We currently have 3 RBs that will share time over the next year or 2 plus Louisiana has 2 of the top 10 RBs in the county for the 2022 class. One RB max for this class IMO.

I agree with your position relative to roster management.
I also suspect that Camar Wheaton will be a take if he wants into the class.

Someone please explain how a school that’s know nationwide as Choklahoma and gets blown out on every national stage still get these top guys???? Do these kids not watch the games? Do they know they are committing to a perennial loser. Why go to a shithole town a conference that’s a laughing stock and to only get embarrassed in the end every year. Someone please explain this to me.
