I was looking up places to eat at tonight and was thinking Cajun Steamer but saw this place called The Rougaroux. It’s not open for dine in yet so I’ll save it for another weekend. It looks like it could be a great hole in the wall type place.

Anybody from Bham area been here? Any of you Louisiana folks been there?

I’m a regular. It was very good to great before they shut down their dining room. Leidenheimer bread and the roast beef is a glorious chopped up mess like what you’d find in New Orleans. I’ve picked up a few times since and it’s been good but a step down.

What made it decline?

nvm I see where you said they shut down their dining room. Is this due to the virus or they did this before?

The bread is legitimate. Expensive for a poboy but one of the best I’ve ever had outside of Louisiana. Gumbo was okay. It’s in an odd spot for me so I don’t get by there much.

Their FB says they partially-opened this past Monday. Might want to stop by to check.

Absolutely legit NOLA neighborhood-style restaurant. Complete with difficult parking.

So true. Also NOLA like —- at least to my memory of living down there for a year plus—they don’t answer the phone, and sometimes don’t really give a crap if you have a question or a suggestion. Ha.

One of the best around here, and that’s not saying much. the new walk-ons is a bit of a disappointment and there aren’t many other options. Access to fresh seafood is one f the only things BR and NO have over Birmingham.

I thought it was okay. The Dong Phuong po boy my wife got was really tasty. I was disappointed in the quality of shrimp. The red beans were not good at all. And it was pricey.

I’d like to go back though and try other things on the menu.

The food is fantastic. By far the best Cajun food you can get in bham by far. Definitely worth going when things open back up. The poboys are legit. My only complain is everything they have just seems to be slightly overpriced by a couple bucks. Main reason I don’t go all the time is I don’t want to drop $20 on half a poboy, cup of gumbo, and a drink including tip. I’d second the shrimp poboy isn’t stellar, but it is okay. I usually get the oyster and enjoy it a lot.

During the nfl season, they have an all you can eat setup during Saints games that is very good. What they actually serve rotated depending on the time of the day, but it’s always been good.

That new Walk Ons is awful. Idk if it’s bc they just started up or what but like you I was disappointed.
