Considering going to St. John for anniversary trip and was wondering if its best to stay in all inclusive or not. We would like to go to BVI some and also jeep tour around St. John. Should we just rent a place and eat at all the local joints?

There's only one place that could be considered all-inclusive. The Westin. I would rent a place and eat local. It's not a big island and there are some very good restaurants on the island still (RIP Zozo's).

You can ferry to the BVI or charter a day trip. I recommend Rockhoppin. Tell midget captain Steve that King Bill recommended you to them. You can rent your jeep on the island and head over to Coral Bay and Skinny Legs for a short trip and lunch.

ETA: I'd rent a condo at Grande Bay and stay right in Cruz Bay. You can walk to a ton of stuff and stagger home from Beach Bar or Joe's Rum Hut at night without having to get behind the wheel.

I don't believe St John currently has any all inclusive s, but, even if they did I'd recommend getting a house/condo and hoping around beaches/bars and restaurants.

In the Cruz Bay area there are a lot of places to stay and an open air bus that can take you to the north side beaches (which are the nicest in my opinion).

We have rented a jeep before and drove all over the island, that was real fun.

Going to BVI google boat tours, alot of them have suggested trips. We have used Palm Tree a few times and some others. Those are always the highlight of our trips.

We have gotten a place in Cruz Bay a few times that is walking distance to the bars / restaurants. So, with that and the open air bus you wouldn't really need to rent a car.

Thank you for all of the info! Staying in Cruz Bay sounds ideal to be able to walk places. Definitely going to check into Rockhoppin charter!

Thanks for your reply and suggestions! Will check out Palm Tree for boat tours as well. I didn't know about the open air bus to take you places, sounds nice. Do you have a favorite time of the year you think is best to visit?

Stayed at Estate Lindholm just up the hill from Cruz Bay. Definitely not all inclusive but I kind of enjoyed the atmosphere. Owner is a grad of Ole Miss law school and is a hard working guy that really took care of us after the hurricane.

We had to cancel our trip in March due to Corona, but check before y'all book because I know the BVIs are still closed to non residents currently. It'll eventually lift though.

Right now the USVI is still closed to non-residents as well. I think the OP is thinking in the future.

I’m pretty sure the USVI’s open to tourists on June 1. Also, on May 26, all bars and restaurants can operate at 50% capacity. The government is currently requiring masks to be worn in all establishments - retail, bar, restaurant, etc.

We had to cancel a 5 day trip in April for my wife’s birthday. Looking to go back soon but I’m always nervous about going to that part of the Caribbean in the July-Sept timeframe.

As someone noted, the BVI’s are reopening at a much slower pace than USVI’s. It would be a shame to go all the way down to St John and not get a chance to shoot over to Jost (Soggy Dollar). Or have the option of visiting The Baths. But given my itch to get back down there I may just have to forego my favorite bar on earth but still visit one of my favorite places (St John) on earth,

My wife and I went for our 5 yr anniversary about 8 years ago. Rented a little place up a mountain overlooking Coral Bay. Our anniversary is in mid December and it coincides with the peak of the Geminids meteor shower. I don’t think I can top the evenings sitting in the pool with a rum drink watching the meteors blaze across that dark sky.
