Not only are practice facilities closed to players beginning tomorrow, per today's memo, but they remain prohibited from using public health clubs, fitness centers, gyms, college facilities, or the like. In effect: the NBA's players can't work out anywhere.

Zion was just starting to get into shape

Griff needs to get all the Pels players a Peleton.

The same way they can fine players for being late to meetings and violating team rules. I don't think the banning them from public gyms is weird, not being able to maintain a safe practice environment at your own facilities is what's weird to me.

Just do things in shifts of small groups and have cleaning between shifts.

Their contracts are full of verbiage in which the team and the league can restrict them from doing things if they feel like it puts them in danger. For example, they probably are not allowed to ride motorcycles or go snow skiing.

Why is this a surprise? Hasn't most cities ordered gyms and such to close already anyway?

The surprise is closing the practice facilities. That’s pretty dumb, IMO.
