After 18 years serving as head coach and 26 years total at Destrehan High School, Steve Robicheaux has announced that he is stepping down as head coach of the Wildcats at the end of the school year.

Robicheaux won a remarkable 82 percent of his games in two stints totaling 18 years as head coach, compiling a record of 186-41. Under his leadership, Destrehan won back-to-back Class 5A state championships in 2007 and 2008 and reached two other state championship games, in 2014 and last fall, when the Wildcats lost to Acadiana 8-3 in the Class 5A title game.

Robicheaux told his team Thursday night and made the decision of his own accord. He said it was time.

quote:

Robicheaux intends to continue his administrative duties at Destrehan and has been asked to aid in the transition to a new coach.

The search for a successor will begin immediately.

Word on the street is the Offensive Coordinator, Boyne will get it. He has been around for a long time.

I wouldn't be surprised if Chad Blanchard got a serious look at it, if he wants it, as well. Been around the program a while and did good his one year as HC at Patterson.

When’s the last time the scoring in the 5A title game was that low?

It appears never...

Looks like 5A started in 1991. That is the lowest score.
The second lowest is
2008 Destrehan 14, West Monroe 3

In 4A it is
1972 Nevile 6, Airline 0
1982 Ruston 8, Neville 0

I saw he finished DROP. So I wouldn’t be surprised if he finds a private school gig.

Crazy that Acadiana was apart of the lowest scoring game ever in a 5A state championship and was also apart of the highest scoring 5A state championship as well, and all within a span of like 6 years.

I imagine this job opening will probably be the hottest in the state. Who wouldn’t want to coach at a football school like Destrehan?

Destrehan has its new head football coach and it is a familiar name in coaching and at Destrehan.
Former Wildcats defensive coordinator Marcus Scott was approved as the new coach at Destrehan by the St. Charles Parish School Board upon the recommendation of principal Jason Madere.

quote:

Scott has great familiarity with Destrehan, having served as defensive coordinator of the Wildcats in 2016-17 before leaving to accept the job at John Ehret in 2018.
In two seasons as the Patriots’ head coach, Scott posted an impressive 20-5 mark, winning District 8-5A in each season.
In 2018, John Ehret reached the Class 5A semifinals, losing at West Monroe one step short of the state championship game. In 2019, the Patriots lost 34-7 at Captain Shreve in the opening round of the playoffs

Scott is a good coach. Shouldn’t be a big drop off from Robichaux

I would not be surprised to see him land at St. Charles Catholic in a couple of years when Frank Monica retires. It's his Alma Mater.

only problem is the talent will be a step down for him, and it’s a big difference going from coaching against Jason Tucker to coaching against Salt

I’d certainly say Ehret has as much talent as any public school in the area. The lack resources to get to that next level. Lambert and Scott both did well there.

Coach Scott coached me at West Jeff. He is an incredible man. I think he will do well. Boyne was our OC as well so he definitely has familiarity with the coaches there.

I wish him much success and hope he pushes a ton of players to LSU.
