Like I said in that thread, bunch of uneducated fricks making stupid comments. But honestly that is who usually see in the real world.

For example, a friend of mines wife heard about "macros" what ever that is supposed to mean and asked me to help her. I assumed she just wanted her macros adjusted for body comp and weight loss and she understood how to count then etc. I plugged the info into my calculator and sent the macros, ratios and total Cal's over. She replies, wtf is this and what does it mean, I thought you were sending me a diet?

When I told her she asked for macros and I assumed she know how to count them, she was like no, I thought it was a type of diet, heard about it on TV.

Most of the general public is clueless on most things as evidence by that shite show of a thread

Technically only the induction period of Atkins is keto. Most people just ride the induction period.

ETA

That thread makes my head hurt.

Agreed. When I was losing all of my weight; the stall from working out was EXTREMELY disheartening. The only thing that mattered to me was seeing the number on the scale go down, and I imagine a lot of people are like that. You can obviously argue that is a horrible mentality to have as reshaping your body probably should be the goal. That said, it's hard to stay motivated when numbers stall, and we all see ourselves in the mirror daily so it's really tough to see the changes in our body. Scale changes are something you can see and keep tabs on easily.

Get a scale that measures body fat % and other metrics and you won’t worry as much about just weight, they have some cheap options for $30-50 on amazon. I lost 13 lbs over 3 weeks when I first started Keto and then my weight stalled at 202, luckily my scale continued to show a decrease in body fat and that’s good enough for me. I’ve gone from 15.5 to 14.2% over the 1st month and that number will continue to drop even if weight doesn’t go down drastically.

Also too much protein can be a bad thing, google Gluconeogenesis. If you truly want to have a better understanding of the purpose of the keto/paleo diet and how the body works I recommend reading 21 day reset by Mark Sisson, it’s repetitive at times but its great for gaining an understanding of why the body does certain things. It also has a bunch of good keto meal recipes and recommendations.

I use one of those scales but they're pretty unreliable. Taking measurements and progress pics are better ways to track progress and reduce reliance on the scale

Paul Saladino - The Most Precious Human Food: Animal Fat

"For the last 50 years animal fat has been demonized as the main cause of the myriad maladies suffered by modernized humans. Efforts to reduce this component of our diets have correlated with nothing but worsening of obesity, metabolic syndrome and associated diseases, however. This will come as no surprise to those who consider the vital role that animal fats have played in human evolution and survival throughout our existence. This presentation will examine the often overlooked nutrients present in animal fats, and emphasize the vital importance of this food source in the diet of anyone looking to improve health, longevity and performance. There will also be a challenge to share your #steakdance as part of this talk- anyone who wants show the world how happy eating animal foods makes them by showing off their moves should definitely attend."

This could have some parallel to why the Okinawa diet uses so much pork lard.

OWSA,

If you don't mind, I have a few questions for you.

1. Will any protein powder suffice for say making low carb breakfast smoothies?

2. Do you have a recommendation for protein powder (note, I am not a weight lifter - I primarily run and do P90x type workouts daily).

3. Do you happen to add any flavoring to your electrolyte drink - I am just not a huge fan of the salt taste but I also dont want artificial sweetener as I have already developed a (crap that stuff tastes too frigging sweet) reflex.

4. Do you have any go to Low Carb websites?

Thanks!

I use isopure zero carb personally. It takes great and it has legit ingredients with no fillers.

Again, Isopure zero carb. On keto you generally don’t need to take in extra protein to meet your macros. In fact if you are just starting out I would advise against it. If you still feel like you need some protein keep it to one scoop (25g).

No I do not add flavoring you get used to it. I have added the stevia sweetened Mio in the past but same as you I don’t like overly sweet things. Give the stevia sweetened Mio a shot. I would only use the stevia sweetened ones though.

Not really tbh. If I want to try some new recipes or whatever I will just google search keto recipes, etc and there’s a metric ton of stuff out there at this point.

I have been intermittent fasting and usually drink coffee in the morning. Have I been doing it wrong by having Truvia and collagen powder in it?

There’s a couple different factions on this topic...

The one I subscribe to is that even coffee breaks a fast. Anything the body has to metabolize will break you’re fast so it’s water only. Assuredly the truvia and collagen will break your fast without even looking at the coffee aspect.

Some people will swear coffee and bone broth do not break a fast, but I disagree.

Thanks! I figured it did..lol. I will change it up to drinking water only for my fasting and then if I need some caffeine I will drink it during my window of eating. Maybe I can do without it, who knows. Haha
