metcon 5's all day with inserts
re: Powerlifting ShoesPosted by BeachDude022 on 2/13/20 at 9:11 pm to DVinBR
I bought some Nike Metcon 4s. They might have a newer version out now, but I love em. Best weightlifting shoes I’ve ever owned. My deads for sure were more sturdier, I felt. If that makes sense. I feel more anchored down and solid on the floor for squats too. Hope that helps.

I still use my 4s for a majority of my squatting and heavy Olympic lifts
I took the inserts I got with the 5s and put them in my 4s. The 5s are my shoes for conditioning

Nike Romaleo 3's for squatting. Nano 2's for everything else

If someone has no functional limitations in ankle mobility, using lifters for certain lifts can be beneficial versus continually compensating for lower ranges of motion at the start of the chain.
It's very style dependent, IMO.
Personally, I can't really use heeled shoes for a low bar squat. The heels keep me too far forward and I'll lose every squat forward.
For high bar and really targeting the quads, I can use heeled shoes, but they don't give me a tremendous advantage.

If you don't mind me asking, how long are your legs proportionally to your torso and how tall are you?
My working theory is that taller guys with longer legs don't get much of a benefit from heels. That's how I feel about myself. I have to open my hips maximally and push knees forward maximally to hit depth bc I'm 6'3 with long legs.
When I wear heels, I can't open my hips as much. It's all knee extension, and with low bar, it effs my balance.

I squat with shoes with a heel. I think it’s the Adidas Powerlift shoe. They were like $100. Great investment. Been using them for 7 years.
To follow on your theory, I love the stability of my squat shoes and the heel. I’m also pretty short at 5’7 so that may be a reason why.

Back when we did pistols, I could do them with lifters but struggled without.

Gonna probably disagree with that but to each their own

I deadlift in my socks
That’s the best shoe

You don’t slip? I go barefoot in my garage gym but at snap I like my chucks decent enough. Still a little too much cushion but is what it is

If you prefer to deadlift barefoot these are about as close as you're gonna get.

I have some good quality underarmor and Nike socks
I don’t deadlift on a platform. I have horse stall mats and the base gym has rubber floors
The platforms are cheap as frick Hammer strength ones (which is surprising) the wood isn’t secure on the edges.

I've never had a problem with the base gym squat platforms

Just got a pair of these for only $89
Got my first session in them for snatches
I can already tell these are the best out there
Much better than my Adidas powers
Can’t wait to squat in them, such a steal not paying $200 for them
