I've made up my mind to purchase a weight sled. I would like to use it for heavier pushes and pulls, but also for lighter conditioning work from time to time. I currently have a garage gym with 3/4" stall mats on half of it and bare concrete on the other half. I'm looking at the Rouge Slice sled with plastic skis mainly because I have heard the plastic skis reduce damage and noise and this sled has a minimal footprint when folded up. Does anyone have any experience with a sled like this in a home gym? Mainly looking for insight into if it can perform on the stall mats, or if anyone has put turf like material over stall mats. Any idea on how loud this would be on concrete with the plastic kit on the rails? Thanks!

I have the Rogue S-25 Fat Boy sled. The negative I've heard on plastic runners is they tend to chip and can make the actual push/pull harder.

I just use mine out in the street. It makes noise like metal being dragged over asphalt. I would expect the same sort of scraping with plastic on concrete, but it's nothing crazy. None of the neighbors have minded me doing it at 7 pm.

Never tried it on mats, so I don't know there.

Yea I'm in the same position. I use the street or my yard.

I couldn't imagine it would push very well in the stall mats though. Like at all.

This is my thought, although I don't know. The friction is already decent outside, and the stall mats already tend to be sticky.

One of the same things that makes the stall mats great for lifting (grippy surface) seems like it would cut against a sled.

That all makes sense. I typically train at 5 AM, so I was trying to think of a way to get my sled on at that time without being too loud. At a normal time of the day I'll just use the driveway, but with a 2 year old I gotta get it in when I can, which is usually predawn. I've seen some people use short indoor/outdoor carpet, which is cheap to try so I might try that just to see it works or not.

I have pushed a sled on mats and concrete. I think I prefer it on mats, especially if the concrete has any uneven sections where two slabs connect.

I just bought the Rogue Sled and am going to put 2x4 wood on the bottom. I too like to workout early (~630am) and I want to respect my neighbors quiet time.
If I don't reply back after a few weeks, keep me honest and hit me up and I will post my review of my wood sled skids

Realize this is a bumped thread...but does anyone use a sled with a cheap artificial grass/astro turf type carpet you can buy at Home Depot. I was wondering if it'd be a good idea to have a roll that's say 4' wide by ~36' long cut by them and just open the garage door, roll it out, and do some sled work. I have an incline to my driveway so think even a relatively short distance would provide some good work.

I have the Rogue dogsled, and my current warm-up includes 10 straight minutes of sled backwards pulls + push into position. I put the plastic skis on.

The sled will not move on my stall mats, it just tilts. So that's not an option.

I can pull on my smooth garage floor, but the driveway is super frictiony.

I think turf wouldn't work unless you glued it down, and I'd only use turf if I could roll-up after my workout, so that's not an option.

I think you can apply any substrate you want on the sled, so once my ski's wear out I'll apply something else.

The wood sounds like a good idea. I'm considering gluing cheap carpeting to some plywood and screwing that onto the sled - this should be virtually silent.

I only use IN my garage, as the distance pulling backward is plenty, and I like the contrast of then pushing back to original position.

Yeah, carpet just rolled out would work for pushing, but not pulling.

I ended up with the dogsled with skis. It’s way quieter than I thought it would be. As long as I sweep away any small rocks, it’s not waking my neighbors up. The skis are pretty smooth and glide well.

Agreed. I have the rogue echo sled with plastic skis and it’s damn near silent on my driveway. No problems with the early AM workouts.
