info

Anyone read this? came out in 2019, great book. Sledge's Dad wrote With the Old Breed (that the show The Pacific on HBO was based on) and China Marine.

Sledge provides a nice history of the gulf of mexico, how it was founded and everything that makes up its history and culture.

It would be a good fit for most around this site.

Finally got around to reading it.

It was okay, a bit textbook-ish at times. Did a good job covering the eras of what countries/who controlled the Gulf, and the boats they did it with. Did come away with a few fun factoids though.

Wish the author would've spent more time on 20th century to the present, but that's just my personal feeling.

Starting The Gulf : the making of an American Sea / Jack E. Davis. It looks interesting, thanks to this thread.
