He did very well this year but top 5 money is kind of crazy. Looks great compared to Jimbo though

That 500k you're saving is a real value. The question is, how much of your success is orgeron and how much was brady/aranda/burrow?

Jimbo controls a big part of what goes on in his program, sometimes that's a positive and sometimes a negative. However you know what you're getting.

With orgeron, what does he tangibly do that you know is repeatable year in year out with a changing staff? He's certainly the highest paid mascot.

If you take out the 5 million dollar split life insurance policy, his salary is actually 6 mil a year which is 7th in the SEC alone.

Recruit for 1.

And look I was the biggest Ed O hater in the world when we hired him. But he showed the ability to seek change in order to make it work. If he can continue to do that than the success will sustain.

I do believe he's a great recruiter, just not sure if that's a huge plus at a program like LSU that recruits itself in state. He's shown a willingness to adapt and release control to more qualified coordinators which should serve him well, so long as he continues to hire the right ones.

Why? He's got a top 5 winning percentage plus his SEC/National title this year. Record has improved every year since he took over and he's shown a willingness to make staff changes where it makes sense. Currently, he's a top 5 coach in CFB so it would make sense to pay him.

The LSU brass must've not listen to Joe Burrow and gave CEO a lifetime contract.

Yep. He's one of only 6 active head coaches to win a national championship.
And have to give LSU credit. 3 of them did it there.
That’s something I hadn’t thought about—pretty neat factoid.

he has earned every penny,

As long as its payment for the NC I’m ok with it.
Paying that much for the future is just another Woodward blunder.

He deserves top 5 money because he earned it. In you forgot, O hired the coaches, recruited the players, managed the program, coached games near perfectly, and won a national championship. Whoever says he has not earned this or deserves to be paid at the top of his profession is an idiot.

Seconded.

Haven't heard anything about buyout terms. I think Eaux would probably not need much of one, as he's extremely unlikely to even entertain offers from elsewhere, and he strikes me as the kind of guy who won't want to hold LSU by the short hairs if he gets fired.

Found it
quote:

Orgeron's buyout equals out to 70% of the salary remaining on the entire contract. If LSU were to terminate Orgeron's contract in the first year, his buyout would be about $27 million; in the second year, about $21 million; in the third, $16.8 million; in the fourth, $12.6 million; in the fifth, $8.4 million; and in the final year, $4.2 million.
Not nearly as bad as Gustav’s deal from an LSU standpoint. I don’t see them wanting to fire him this fall no matter how much they underachieve, unlike AU in 2018 (and Eaux still has the afterglow of that 15-0 dream season).

Glad to see him getting paid.
