A couple buddies and myself are trying to do a trip after graduation from LSU and I was looking for recommendations. We have talked about Europe, southeast Asia, or somewhere in the Caribbean (not the Bahamas or Cozumel more like Curacao) or South America (Argentina, Peru).

Everyone in the group appreciates culture, history, and is pretty well-traveled but also we are laid back and looking to relax a little bit as opposed to going full speed for a week or two.

Appreciate any recommendations and feel free to ask questions if you want some more details? Would leave out of NOLA or Houston

I went to Moosehead Lake in Maine for a week after graduating and had a blast. Moose safaris, hiking, canoeing/kayaking, fishing, and really nice nature.

Are you opposed to staying in the US or want to go international?

Not opposed to staying in the US but definitely don't want a big city if we stay in the US

How does Moosehead compare to somewhere like Banff would you say? I’ve been dying to go to Banff

I’d do SE Asia with few days in big cities like Tokyo, Shanghai, Ho Chi Minh City, Bangkok....then go to Palawan or Bali for a week to chill out.

Banff looks awesome, havent been before. Moosehead was nice for what i wanted- nature. Really not very many people in the area which is probably why we had a great time

I spent a month in Costa Rica. A friend and I traveled from coast to coast and back to the Pacific side. Visited every city in the country we wanted to. It was wild. Rented a 4x for the first two weeks.

Any interest in golf, hiking, or whisky? Scotland: Highlands, Skye, or go all the way up to Orkney. Gorgeous scenery pretty much anywhere you go. You could easily rent an SUV and camp, or find lodgings as simple as hostels or as luxurious as you can afford. (Even if you don't golf, it's a great country for a rambling, ad hoc trip.)

This is exactly what I was going to post.

My favorite island by far has been Grenada. Things to do.. Beaches. Diving. Amazing food. Has it all.

Haven't done it myself, but always wanted to do a rafting trip on the Snake River!

Dunno. At your age, I'd still go to Mallorca Spain. You can relax when you're old.

Do you think we could do both Ireland and Scotland? I love whisky but only one other guy does... is there enough for others to do for 8ish days?

Plenty to do, even if whisky isn’t the focus. Hiking, history, scenery—you could spend a few days in Glasgow or Edinburgh. Or fly into London and spend a few days there before taking the train to Scotland.

Ireland is a great choice, too....either one of those places could fill 8 days.

Personally I wouldn't do Asia for 8 days, too long to get there and back.

If I was going on a trip with young guys, I'd go somewhere you wouldn't take young women in your lives. Go to Spain, Gibralter, and Moracco. Somewhere like that.

I also think Ireland or Scotland or somewhere like that would be a blast. I can see the appeal of partying late nights in Prague or Spain too. But honestly if you just want to night club and meet young ladies I feel like NYC or Miami or LA would be just as good. Its hard to mix seeing culture and history with partying.

Who are you people who can afford these kinds of trips!? When I graduated college, my “trip” was a one day booze cruise on the Amite/Diversion Canal to Lake Martin with my friends on a party barge.

My law school graduation trip was a 5 night road trip to San Antonio, Sante Fe, Denver and back.

Seriously, how do people afford these things in their 20’s!?

OP could get airfare for $600 to Europe and spend $1500 for a 8 day trip fairly easily, much less if he really wanted to.

Not that hard to work a side job and save that up. Maybe he has a signing bonus for a job or graduation money or something.

Me and my friende did this for college graduation last summer.

Brussels, Paris, Lauterbrunnen, and Florence over a 3 week period. Can't recommend it enough.

Florence has a very large college aged presence. Lion's Fountain Pub was one of the funnest bars I've been to.

Dubrovnik, Croatia
Prague, Czech Republic
Granada, Spain
Tirana, Albania
Tbilisi, Georgia
Belize City, Belize
Marrakech, Morocco

All pretty safe, off the beaten path and will leave you with great stories to share.

I would recommend SE Asia and agree that this is a time to do something that you may not want to do with wife and kids later. It’s also a lot cheaper to buy one plane ticket lol.

Hiking Machu Picchu and spending time in Peru would be pretty awesome too.

And if money isn’t a problem, say f it and do an African safari.

Not yet. They're on my short list. The research is complete. It's just a matter of lining up those trips with other trips the family wants to take.
