I was watching the show and heard that song start up and thought wow, what brilliant use of a song and what a great cover.

I thought the same. I backed up the DVR and watched/listened again.
It was always one of my favorite Bowie songs. If you want to hear something great check out Rick Wakeman (who played piano on the original recording) talking about Bowie and the song and also playing it. LINK
