I think I've asked twice over the last few years about totally wire free cameras which allow recording straight to a DVR at home. Looks like I've found some:

Lorex

Anyone familiar?

I just bought a new house that had them. I have had them on for 3 days now.

Wouldn't Arlo fill this need as well?

Yes, but you can plug a USB drive to the base station for local recordings. It will still record to the cloud which may not be what OP wants. Personally, it's the best of both worlds b/c if you have a fire or the dvr is stolen, the local DVR doesn't really help. Cloud has disadvantages, but having both is ideal for security. With all that said... I am no fan of battery-operated cameras unless you have no other option.

Wireless cameras are not ideal for security.

If security is what you want get a wired system on its own network.

It's just for around the house but using the Arlo record to USB function might be worth exploring...

Arlo apparently has a FlexPower model now that can be integrated with ONVIF compliant VMS (ZoneMinder) so I'm going to investigate that some more too.

I have a lorex wired system that’s been good so far... had it almost a year. The app could be a little better but for $550 for a 6 camera system I’m happy

I’ve been contemplating these but I continue to go back to my nest cameras because nest does 24/7 video feed, wire powered so I don’t need to charge/change batteries, and I don’t need a DVR. Personally, I prefer my video storing to the cloud and saving clips as I need them since I don’t want to add another box/hardware to my house. It’s worth the $12 per month for me.

That said, when my cameras have WiFi issues at times, I always start looking at Lorex again. Just haven’t done it.

I get the draw of wireless cameras, we tried Arlo and did not like them. The capturing of movement was inconsistent as well as time of recordings. I also got tired of charging batteries every few months, dragging the ladder out every time.

I went to a hardwired networked system using BlueIris on a PC. BlueIris is one of the most powerful NVR softwares out there, the level of tweaking is awesome. I’m using Dahua dome cameras and the picture is obviously night and day with the Arlos.

Might want to make sure you clear out any old permissions in the system. Don't want the builder/contractor or previous owner logging in and enjoying the show.
