Sorry for the wall of text:

I'm a TX resident and I purchased a boat/motors/trailer in TX via private party. The boat/motors are titled in TX and the registration is current. The trailer is not registered nor does it have a title (but it has an Arkansas plate.) The previous owner said trailers are not tiled in AR and he never bothered with the process of getting it titled/registered in TX.

I want to title/register all of it in LA in my dad's name who is a resident in LA. Has anyone done this and have any insight to the process? From what I've read on here the trailer piece sounds like a potential nightmare due to no title. The boat/motors portion should be easier but I do not want to transfer title to me (dad) in TX before changing it to LA. I'm not sure if that is even possible.

Any help is appreciated oh wise ones of the OB.

Nahh its easy.

I purchased a Boat from Alabama and they dont have titles for trailers or boats either. Just get the VIN # off the trailer and bring it with you when you go the the Tax & Title place.

Also have the seller break out the costs of the Boat, Trailer, and Motor as SEPARATE LINE ITEMS in the Bill of Sale. and make sure to have the trailer as the lowest priced item because the tax man will get his tax money from that when you register in LA

If the trailer has a legible VIN on it, you’ll just need to take it in for a physical inspection along with the bill of sale. If it doesn’t have a legible VIN you’ll be SOL
