I feel the O-Line needs to be recognized for their performance this week

Line played well but getting Ingram back would still be a nice boost

After how badly the line played last year, it's amazing how little praise they've received on this board for their improvement

Joe started getting the ball out quicker. Jefferson went beast mode on an early drive (scored TD). After that, Joe trusted WR's to make plays and it was on.

Joe played great and Jefferson deserves a lot of credit for getting it started.

This is wrong, wrong, WRONG! You’re not hiding poor pass blocking by passing. Over and over, in this game, Texas brought six rushers against five linemen and a back. LSU handled it. Last year they often did not handle it when it was a hat on a hat or even when we had the rushers outnumbered. The pass blocking got better; it didn’t get hidden. Either that, or Texas has no good rushers.

I concede that a well run passing attack, and a well trained QB, get the ball released faster, which obviously helps. Burrow knew just what he was doing, and he rarely held the ball long. That is also a big factor.

Still seeing what I think are missed assignments; it's not always easy to tell because we don't know what those assignments are every time. But there are times where you know SOMEBODY blew it. I'd say for the most part it is the in-process guys (Hines for example) and RBs at times. Often on 5 man slide protections which you hate to see.

The scheme is helping. Yes, some on just quickness and getting ball out quicker which is primarily QB and WR being on same page with reads, those WRs not getting nudged off route or held up at line, and getting to their spots. But the biggest scheme assist is in the individual OL understanding what's required. For example, Deculus understands that on a particular play he doesn't have to sustain a block within a certain zone with 100% face coverage; he knows he can let the rusher push upfield just not give the inside. And for how long. That enables a OT, Deculus in this example, protect one side and it takes away some of the tactics a rusher can use on him. In short, it's better coaching that is complementary to the scheme. If you see a speed rusher behind a QB as the throwing motion starts, that's a win for the OT; conversely, if he's affecting a pass lane or prevents a step up then it's a loss.

I truly believe Charles had a pretty bad and nagging shoulder injury last year (suffered in UF game?) that enabled rushers to get him off balance because of the limits of that arm and they took advantage of it. An injured Charles was still better than the next guy up. THAT was the problem.

I thought all along Deculus had the ability to make the next step. He has. Not there yet, but yes- has progressed nicely. He was progressing last year. It was obvious to me, but some just had a bad taste in their mouth about him. He is a case where failure provided both the motivation and leaning moments to get there.

I think the RPO scheme is affecting our run blocking. Noting that many of our OL grades last year showed our OL were grading better at pass than run blocking. What I see happening is that the blocking techniques used when you don't know if it is run/pass behind you are still a work in progress. The biggest issue is getting to the 2nd level blocking when a run because of timing, communication, and inexperience. Mullen always handled this by the side that potentially had the run going to it run blocked while the seal side simply passed block (which does indeed seal the backside, IF your RB doesn't jack around in the backfield). Refs seem reluctant to get crazy with the downfield flags. Our passing game is pushing those LBs back from LoS, making getting to them on a RPO a questionable affair if you don't know if you can get to them if a pass. Other than experience, communication and techniques have to improve. RB can simply yell 'go'. If you can stay engaged you can go downfield 99% of the time. So if you can get push, you can actually run block on a pass play and get downfield. Solves the issue in both cases.
