How are closed primaries considered constitutional?

The text of the 24th amendment would seem pretty clear that they're not
What am I missing here?
Or are they referring to something else when they refer to primary here?
What am I missing here?
quote:
The right of citizens of the United States to vote in any primary or other election for President or Vice President for electors for President or Vice President, or for Senator or Representative in Congress, shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or any State by reason of failure to pay any poll tax or other tax.

You can vote in the “primary” election. You just have to choose one party.

That means you cannot be forbidden to vote because you did not pay a tax to vote. Poll taxes were used in the South to limit blacks and poor whites from voting.
Political parties control Presidential primaries and can determine who is one the ballot and who is eligible to vote. Those are determined by states.

I guess that’s what some people say when they are “registered Republican”
I’m my State you can’t register to a party.
You just choose an R or D when it’s a primary and the appropriate candidates come on the screen.

That’s was a Democrat thing that’s ashes in the wind

I think this is the important part.

Finish reading the amendment. It's right there in your sentence.

Doesn't say you have to choose

You’re emphasis is on the wrong part. None of that means democrats can choose the republican candidate, or vice versa. All primaries should be closed. Hell, republicans allow important, early primaries to be in states that are generationally democrat, with open primaries. That’s how you get Romney and McCain for candidates.
Republicans should schedule primaries by the percentage of the state that voted republican in the last presidential election. Iowa and New Hampshire can suck it.

That's how it was in Michigan. In Florida I had to register as a Republican to vote in the primary. It differs by state. I don't mind the idea of registering for a party to vote in the primary, but I don't think that should or needs to be public information if you google my name, that is BS.

Did you finish the sentence?
Posted on 8/14/19 at 1:40 am to SammyTiger
Did you read it as "How are closed primates considered constitutional?"
Posted on 8/14/19 at 6:03 am to Powerman
It means that the political parties cannot tax you to vote in their primaries, not that you have a right to vote in any primary. Read the whole sentence.

Seems to be restricted to 'poll tax' for the reason for not allowed to vote.

Last I checked there is no fee to join a party

A political party is a private entity. You have no right to vote in their primary.

What were they used for outside of the South?
What were property requirements to vote used for?
