Had some old line for my Weed eater that has become brittle. Any recommendations for a good brand/type .080 line which will hold up ?

You can't spin anything thicker? I just have a big spool of regular Echo line. I've tried a bunch, and none of them are significantly better than the others (except the really cheap stuff)

The best have a cross section that is not circular, but rather square or star shaped or even triangular. They cut way better and hold up much better.

Echo Black diamond or Oregon Magnum Gatorline Square

I’ve been experimenting with different diameters. I seem to think that the thinner stuff cuts better. Thoughts on this??

I like the 0.095” vs the 0.105” on my Stihl trimmers. I’ve used a FS240 and my FS91, and both seems to perform better with the 0.095”

Don't think so, spool says .065 or .080. Old Featherlite, but still going (couple new carbs over 10 years of use tho). Engine might handle thicker but not sure spool will.
Thanks
Thanks

I posted this same thread a couple months ago. Of the recommendations I chose Copperhead line. Best I have ever used!

I think the manufacturer sets the line weight for the designed string length and engine RPM/load.
I have always owned cheapie lightweight straight shaft string trimmers, like homelite, weedeater, mtd, etc., all with smaller displacement 2 strokes like 25cc, that want 0.080" string. Pay around a hundred bucks, use it for 3-4 years, then get another.
I like the green star shaped .080 line the best. It lasts way longer even around chain link fence and edging the driveway.

They also have better potential to weld to themselves inside the spool head and create feeding issues. I use plain Stihl round .095" line in my trimmer and I've never noticed any difference in performance over the Echo Crossfire stuff I used to use.

Echo Black Diamond has been a cut above everything else I've tried.
